TOR causing ICmag to crash, run really slow....WTF!

Man TOR is some annoying shit....recently realized that my internet security wasnt blocking my IP addy, so installed torproject.

now whenever i run torproject browser my IP is safe but ICmag runs like shit. it takes 5x longer to load the pages...and it seems every 2-3 minutes im kicked off and have to log back in! that shit is ANNOYING AS FUCK!!

so basically im forced to start using regular mozilla again because TOR is totally unusable it makes me want to throw my computer out the window....

is there a reason why this is happening and is something better out there to use??

I don't know any free services that are better.

But I also feel like TOR is useless for our purposes. TOR does nothing in throwing a govt agency whom is watching you for a loop. If you're being watched via Patriot Act or warrant o some kind, TOR will do nothing. The only thing TOR could realistically potentially prevent is ICMAG from getting your IP should they be subpoena'd. The odds of that happening are one in a million. The odds that ICMAG would even comply are even smaller.

I'd just log on brosepharian.

TOR sucks? JJ

My best guess is that you are relaying off of a couple slow proxy servers. As I recollect: TOR gives you options as to how many and which proxies you relay off of. You should be able to improve your speed by tweaking the proxies you use.

Now I am probably the wrong guy to give advice about TOR because I honestly believe it is a DEA application that in reality tracks you instead of protecting your trail.

BUT: If I was using TOR and needed to ask somebody who seems to know how to tweak this new version I would look up OldPork. I have discussed TOR with him a couple of times and he appeared quite knowledgeable.

The fact that you're logged off is intentional for security reasons. Do you check the 'remember me' box when logging in? If not, try checking it. It creates cookies on your computer with your credentials, so that a TOR change in IP does cause a session close.

We can't do much about the speed issue until TOR improves and becomes more widely used... its just a consequence of the multiple steps taken to obscure your location, creating a longer route for your internet traffic to travel.

EDIT: If you do check the 'remember me' box, you may want to use an addon like Cookie Culler (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/82/) to make sure cookies are deleted from your computer.

Where did you get that idea? I've never seen any credible evidence to support that, and knowing a little bit about the underlying technology makes me think your statement is based on nothing more substantial than paranoia. If I am incorrect, please enlighten me, I'd be very interested in evidence to the contrary :)

Having said that, TOR does make browsing pretty much any site slower and more annoying, but there are ways to mitigate that somewhat. Not completely, of course, due to the nature of how Tor works, so some patience will always be required. It's a trade-off, I guess.

ahh so its normal and not just my computer. some slow loading time is fine in the case of protecting IP. i guess i would only need to use it if a posted a large grow thread on here...but i guess if i really had something to hide i would create a new screen name and post something from there. but my grow is pretty small, only plans for 4200 watts and i have a couple scripts i grow for my family members.

sacbeh- before i installed TOR i had a buddy fix my browser settings. my comp automatically destroys cookies....it never saves my username/passwords or any kind of website history. everytime you log into ICmag, then decide to go to google or something, it automatically logs out. he told me that it would create a new IP addy everytime i opened a browser but i recently did an IP check and it traced me right to my house. said what city and the longitute/lattitude coordinates...scary shit.

yea i noticed tor is not blocking my ip either.. And it seems every 30-45 seconds my puter freezes for about 10-15 seconds.. that sucks ass.. peace n pufs..

Waste of time, TOR is nearly useless for this website imo and I do not trust it personally.

If you guys are seeing your IP when checking at a site like whatismyip.com, then that means you're not going through TOR yet. The slowness and other issues may be due to other problems on your computers.

With TOR active and your browser using it correctly, you will see a different IP at whatismyip.com.

Are you using Firefox with Tor Button? Make sure after starting up TOR/vidalia, you enabled the Tor Button, or else your browser won't use TOR even though its running.

New Details Support Tor Spying Theory

You’ll recall the story about the Swedish security researcher who stumbled upon unencrypted embassy e-mail traffic that was passing through five Tor exit nodes he set up. The researcher, Dan Egerstad, told me before the Swedish feds raided his apartment that he was certain that others were grabbing such traffic through Tor exit nodes in the same way that he was. Government and intelligence agencies were presumed to be some of the spies tapping into the Tor network.

Well the TeamFurry researchers decided to examine the configuration of a few Tor exit nodes to see what they might be up to and found some interesting results — exit nodes that were configured to accept only unencrypted IMAP, AIM, VNC, Yahoo IM and MSN Messenger traffic, among a few other things, and to reject all other traffic.

Another node set up in Germany was configured to accept only unencrypted telnet, POP3, and nntp traffic. Here’s a look at one of the configurations:

accept *:143 <- Accept unencrypted IMAP traffic to anywhere
accept *:5190 <- Accept unencrypted AIM traffic to anywhere
accept *:5050 <- Accept unencrypted Yahoo IM traffic to anywhere
accept *:5900 <- Accept unencrypted VNC traffic to anywhere
accept *:5901 <- Accept unencrypted VNC traffic to anywhere
accept *:1863 <- Accept unencrypted MSN Messenger traffic to anywhere

reject *:* <- reject all other traffic.

Of course there’s no telling who the exit node owners are (bored hackers, industrial spies or intelligence agencies) or what they’re doing for sure, but as TeamFurry notes, the configurations sure look suspicious.

They also found another exit node in Germany that appears to be doing man-in-the-middle attacks on HTTPS connections.

Look guys, I understand that you're paranoid and have trouble trusting something like TOR. But you're failing to understand the concept, and none of this TOR fear mongering is helping the OP with his issue. And TOR has been explained in several other threads, but one more time...

TOR is not designed to keep data private, to hide personal information, etc. TOR does one thing well: it obscures your location. Even a spy at a TOR exit node can't know your location. Data privacy is your job.

Example. You log in to ICmag using an unsecured connection (http). Your location is obscured thanks to TOR, no one at the exit node, nor at ICmag servers can know where you are. But, because you're using http, your data is NOT secure, and someone at the exit node or at the IC server can read your credentials for this site. Get it?

Always use HTTPS with ICmag, and use TOR when you are very concerned about hiding your location. It works perfectly well.

Back to the OP: Yes, did you try the 'remember me' box to see if you can make your sessions stick longer?
