Topping the plant

Is the lighting cycle still veg even tho ur seeing preflowers?
If ur still in veg id say go for it. It stunts the growth of the area where you snipped, allowing the other smaller branches to get approximately at equal height to what will eventually be the 2 new colas.

You can top the plant and make a clone. Or you can pinch the top where the newest leaves are at, making the plant grow two-three leads instead of one. Or you can bend the plant which is what i would do...

Its on a 12/12 because I wanted to induce early flowering, it had been on a 18/6 for about 25-28 days and its been on a 12/12 for about 4-5days

can anyone link me to a thread that shows step by step how to bend and properly tie down the plant?

if you start LST'n now you wont see the great benefit, you will see some, but not alot. I personally veg my plants that i have lst'd for about 2 months, but they become my mothers since when i LST i create clones, so the longer i can veg the more kids that plant will produce.... On your next grow, think about veg'n for longer, and do more of a perpetual grow. Even if you just have one plant, LST'n and making that veg for 2 months will give you a larger yield and you will have that same strain last for as long as you want without having this 4ft mother all the time....

To LST your plant, simply get something that will hold your branchs down, like a paperclip, shoe lace, etc, etc and find something to anchor to, then tie one end to the branch, and the other to your anchor...your done...just make sure you exposing the branches to the light and you will do fine...

Which branches do I tie down first? and How does it work? will the branches start to grow out more horizontally and produce more bud sites?

Is it fine to cut off fan leaves that block potential bud sites? How much stress would I be putting on the plant if I were to use a sharp clean razor to cut off some big vegitative fan leaves?

you can top that plant very easilly as everyone is saying. the place to top it would be a personal choice, but if you look at the first pic on this post, you notice a leaf in the picture that covers the top of the stem, cut there, but make sure not to dammage the little baby leaves on the sides of the stem.
good luck

You can still top your plant even though it is 3-4 days in flower. It'll delay growth a few days or week, but that's all. I topped this Skunk Haze twice, supercropped it, and tied it as you see.

I burned holes(avoids splitting plastic) around the top of the plastic pot to run my green plant tape through. Secured the loose end with a bulldog clamp so it is easy to adjust. Works like a champ. Go for it!

These pics were November 14, about 3-4 days into 10/14 lighting

Here is the same plant on Nov 29th, two weeks later. It's gonna be a BUSH!!

next time around to avoid your current situation, start LST'ing early or just FIM if you must use a blade. topping is really the most stressful thing you can do to plants. but if you take care of those babies, there is not too much to worry about. just keep your photo period really consistant and no light leaks if you have to top during flowering.

Do not top your plants once in the flowering cycle, it doesn't just slow things down, it decreases your final yield dramatically. If you must top. do it at least 2 weeks before entering flowering.Better yet, just bend the plant over, this accomplishes the same thing as topping, but is less stressful equaling uninterrupted growth. When budding, you want the plant to put its energy into producing bud, not new veg growth.bending is easy, just be gentle and slow.you want the top to be bent down below some of the other secondary branches.this may require regular re-tying of whatever you use to tie it down.twist ties can be quite useful. when things have bushed out, release the bonds, then go to 12/12.

just a thought:

just a thought:

maybe it may be a good idia to top, by that making a clone of the plant (about 2/3 leaf sets down the top) and revegging for a while , letting the plant to catch up a little and then to flower?
if you are not in to a tight time schedule it might be a good yeild booster.
all the above advice should work also as well.
if no toppping involved i whould proubably agree and lst the plant.
just my 3 cents.
good luck any how!
