I personally would not top any plant in flowering. Being at only 1 wk if ya think it can't be trained to fit, now would be the time....don't wait if you really have to do it. Not sure what the stress will actually do to the plant as long as it's a healthy vigorous 1 should be ok.
Still i think often overlooked is how easy it is to train a plant to fit & cut no top once flowering is induced. Best of luck & im sure others today will have better insight. i spiral trained this plant to fit & it was 10zips at 65 days or so.
I recently had one break that was about a month into flower. It hasn't got any stretch to it but the leaves and buds seem to be quite dense after about 2 weeks. I may have just got lucky but it looks like it will be ok.
I have taken clones after a week of 12/12 with no harm to the plant. However, it is very advisable to give the plants a bit of Superthrive (1/4 teaspoon per gallon) after you top to help them get through any stress they might experience quicker. Besides, BOG always advocates the use of Superthrive early in flower to help with the intial budset.
I was going to say exactly what strainwhore said, its not the stress but the loss of yield thats a negative.I've always found it best to do your last topping so that you have 10 days to 2 weeks of vegtime left for best results
How about pinching the hurd? I've pinched mine twice now in veg and it's recovered and resumed growth after 24 hours. It's going into 12/12 tomorrow but would like to give it one more pinch. What you think?
my yield suffered from topping within first 2 weeks of flower. They just dont grow the shoots back as fast but Im still glad sometimes as you can veg the top you take to a nice size and then flower properly. I assume people take clones after the first week because the plants have shown sex and you know what your spending time cloning.. Its not so bad if you take a lower budsite within the first 2 weeks. I did that with my afxbb and it worked great but the sc I took from the top and looks like a runt now.
they thing is...in flower..they cioncentrate yup u guessed it, flowering, and so aint got the enerygy to re-build and double like when you di it in veg.... if id just bend it gently and tie it down.
I topped this one on the day we switched to 12/12 just to see what'd happen, I wish I didn't It's still going strong but I think yield would have been higher if not toppet
Great tips & i like the pinching hurd idea best. Im pretty sure GDoc does this w/his grows well into flowering on even the main stem. He has excellent results & seems to all but eliminate the stretch
I never take cuttings or top my plants when they are in bloom! I do all my cuttings / toppings 2 weeks prior to putting the plants to bloom as this will allow the plants to recoup
Yeah, thats what I thought but I figured I'd put the idea out here for discussion and the consenses is, BAD IDEA, so I'll leave it alone. The reason I asked this question in the first place is I have 2 plants that I topped but I appearently didn't get all of it on one of them and now I have 1 bush and 1 tree and wanted to keep them at an even canopy, I'll just move the tree to the outer edge of the light. Thanks for the replies. Peace, DS
