TOO MUCH ON ONE BREAKER???

OK HERE'S THE SETUP:

-3 STANDARD OUTLETS SHARING 1 OUTLET WITH FRIDGE - 10 AMP BREAKER

-I HAVE ALL 3 OUTLETS FULL

-ON THOSE 3 OUTLETS I HAVE THE FOLLOWING(I ADDED EVERYTHING TOGETHER IN WATTS, NOT SURE IF THIS WILL WORK OR NOT):

250W HPS
175W MH
10W OF AIRPUMPS
250W FLOUROS
1 SUMP PUMP THAT RUNS 5X A DAY FOR 2 MIN
2-12V ADAPTERS
0.8AMP FAN 8 INCH FAN
10W SM AQUAR HEATER

PLUS THE FRIDGE SAYS IT'S RATED AT 8.5 AMPS

I KNOW IT SOUNDS LIKE A LOT, BUT I KNOW THERE'S A DIFF BETWEEN WATTS AND AMPS, NOT SURE HOW MUCH IT'S ALL PULLING THOUGH. I'M IN A RENTAL, I'M NO ELECTRICIAN, BUT I DON'T FEEL LIKE HAVING MY HOUSE BURN DOWN OR SOMETHING. HALF OF THE STUFF ONLY RUNS HALF THE DAY. IS THIS TOO MUCH TO BE RUNNING?

Yep to much to put on 10 amps with fridge. Man and 10 amps is unusual standard home circuits are 15 amps #14 wire and 20 amps #12 wire. I would not chnace running what you have it will probably trip the breaker. You might need to run a separate circuit from your panel to you grow location with at least 20 amp breaker and #12 wire or I would even go with a 30 amp #10 wire circuit.............goodluck to ya.............

HOLD ON, I'M ALREADY RUNNING THAT, AND NOTHING ABNORMAL HAS HAPPENED, BEEN KEEPING AN EYE ON THINGS. WHAT'S THE SOLUTION...

AFTER INSPECTING BREAKER BOX MORE CLOSELY, IT SAYS 10 ON BREAKER WITH ,000 IN SMALL LETTERING, BUT ON THE SWITCH IT SAYS 20, LIKE THE REST OF THEM......DOES THIS MEAN 20AMP?

you shouldn't have anything under 15 amps from breaker to your plug in that should be rated 15 or better also if your not the electrician then you should run HEAVY DUTY extension cords from different rooms on differnt circuits. this is of course a last resort.. those of us who are into this are a resourceful bunch if you dont have anyone you trust to come wire for you dismantle grow and live normal and hire an electrician and then set up shop!! your safety and most of all secrecy is IMPORTANT!!! and use gfci on everything you plug in!!! Be safe brother!!!

also hers is a formula watts/volts=amps. So add up your total estimated watts then divide by 120volts(standard home plug) and you will get amps. For example if you have 800watts and divide it by 120 you have 6.6 amps. Well hope it helps be careful electricity kills...........

It must be 20amps if not you would have already tripped the breaker. You still might be pushing it hope your wire doesnt heat up and melt.........

If the number on the lever of the breaker is 20, then that's how many amps it can handle (but only 80% of that number is the safely usable amps). In MOST new wiring hooked up to a 20a breaker, it will have a yellow jacket (12 ga wire). 15a breakers usually have a white jacketed wire (14 ga wire).

Does it have a KV or anything after the 10000? Sounds like a volt handling capacity IMO...but I'm not 100% on that part of it.

UPDATE

UPDATE

OK, IT'S 20 AMPS, ALL THE BREAKERS ARE LIKE THT CEPT FOR THE FURNACE WHICH IS 45. CAN'T YOU JUST CHANGE OUT THE BREAKER TO SOMETHING SLIGHTLY LARGER OR SOMETHING SAFER. WHAT CAN I DO HERE?

HERE'S WHAT IT SAYS ON THE BREAKER

10,000AIC
120/240Vac

AFTER DOING SOME MATHWORK, I'VE COME UP WITH AMPS TOTAL/MAX, AND THATS ONLY 1/2 THE DAY. AND THAT'S RIGHT THERE @ 80%. SAFE? REMEMBER, 8.5 IS FROM BRAND NEW FRIDGE, WIRING IS FROM '91, NEW CONSTRUCTION.

hey guys. i have a similar set up, a 45 amp breaker for livingroom power, but we use like 5 amps. So, i want to run that to my basement for my growop. any ideas. Should i just reverse the wires... What i am proposing is just switching where the breaker wires go. the 45 wire will goto the basement and the 15 to the livingroom.. this is really my best option for a nice biggie of a grow.. Im greedy :D..

rr420: touch your plugs and wires when everything is on to feel for heat. you could perhaps...this depends on how much you need your furnace... power your grow from the furnace circuit, but somehow time the furnace so it wont come on when your lights are on..perhaps you can heat your house from the lights or exhaust when they're on.

JJ: im surprised you have 45a to the living room...you cant just switch the wires because they are usually rated differently

RR420 you are pushing the 20 amp breaker....everything might well be working for you presently but with a compressor load(refrigerator) and a motor load (sump pump) there is a high possibility that from the starting loads you could trip the breaker. I think I would be looking at getting say the refirigerator off the same circuit and getting onto another one.

NO! Breakers and the wiring connected to them must be matched. If you try to run 45a across a wire that's only designed for 20a, it WILL lead to bad problems. Running a 20a breaker on a 45a chunk of wire is just a waste.

The 8.5 from the fridge is most likely the max that it'll draw...with the thermostats cranked down all the way in a hot room, so I'd think you'll be fine.

You might want to consider dropping a new 20a/120v circuit into that room tho so that you won't ever have to worry about it.

BTW, please turn off the caps lock...it's considered screaming when you type with the caps lock on :D

You shouldn't even be thinking of a grow with 45a if you don't know the most basic stuff about wiring...you're just a fire hazard waiting to happen.

jiantj really kind of curious what country you are in....a 45 amp breaker in the US is a rare find

i live in the us.. well its the family room, meant to be the entertainment room, so mad sound systems, upto 2000 watts.. most of our neighbors have all kinds of crazy shit running in that area.. pop corn makers, fake neon palm trees, projectors, all those things are very high load. so i guess the breakers are made to handle more than excessive entertainment needs...

hey RR
I think you are at about 15amps there.... so on a 20a circuit you may be ok..

other wise you can't put a bigger/higher rated breaker inplace of the 20a, they are designed to fail or trip at a load to prevent excessive load going into a circuit. Too much load on a circuit gets you extra heat and possibly a fire..

If you put in a higer rated breaker it may not trip when needed...the wires overheat and... fire... you need to either reduce the load by moving something to another circuit like the fridge as Maverick said or you need a new circuit put in with a higher load capacity.

I dont think there is any other way you can go if your not comfortable with the load atm

keep us posted on what you decide
cheers
