Too many plants?

Hi, i'm going to start germination soon (this weekend) and want to idealy grow 9 plants from seed in a DR100 using a 400w hps. I want a crop for xmas so i need to flip to 12/12 around october 1st. I'm growing OG #18 and cataract kush.

From what i've read to help reduce risks of hermies a veg of around 3-4 weeks after germination is required. Will this be too much veg for each plant in terms of space. Should i reduce the amount of plants grown?

I plan to use coco as my medium in 3.5 or 6 litre pots.

Welcome and good karma for your first grow! Less is more, when it comes to growing mj! Under a 400, Iwould grow out 1 OG #18, (which I grew last year, and it gets large, but easy grower. mine finished at 5 ft tall) , and maybe 2 Cataract Kushes. The grows I have are under a 1000 watter, and when you overcrowd your grow area, it is never good. I had an apt. inspection upcoming, so I only vegged my OG #18 for 2 weeks, along with Pineapple Express and 2 Kushberrys, and I was worried about switching to 12/12 so soon, but no hermies to speak of! I don't count my seedling stage as part of my veg, so they were 3 weeks from germing, when I flipped 'em. Any qs, ask away! potluvr

i grow under a 400,, and 9 plants is way to many to try. i think the 400hps is rated to do a 3x3 area. so i do 4 plants in flower-12/12.

I have seen dutch hydro grows with 9/sq ft and 4/sq ft. Its all about dialing in your numbers.

Here are my 9 plants under a 400W HPS.

They are Chem 4s and not the strains you mentioned but you can get an idea of what I think dialing in 9 plants under a 400W hps runs. I do not think this is best necessarily, it just happened to be the plant numbers and pots I had on hand to work with. I ran with it.

I think under a 400 you really need a nice canopy with lots of tops(I trim lower bud sites to "focus energy on tops). You have to have a vision. I topped in veg and use some lst techniques in order to get ~ 30 tops. I am hoping to avg 8-10 gms/top.

I like to do 4-6 under a 400. You can do the 9 but the will of course all be a little smaller etc...

Do I need any nutes straight after germination? or just give water at ph 5.5?

I would wait awhile until they start showing some vigor and get a few sets of leaves. I do like to use Rhizotonic at that stage to build a healthy root system though. Its a kelp based product.

Plant your 9 seeds and expect to get around 5-6 fems. Veg them for 4 weeks (first 2 weeks 24/0) (second 2 weeks 18/6) then flip them to 12/12. This should have your plants ready from seed to harvest in 12 weeks max. This is what i do every time and it always takes me 12 weeks total with hybrid seeds (sativa and indica crossed but more on the indica side).
As for pot size 3 ltr pots (10") is good for a 3-4ft plant.

Another thing, do I need to use some kind of preventative measure to stop mites, PM and the like or just deal with them if they occour?

A 400 watt HPS will definetly work for 9 plants.I guess alot factors could come into play.Training,size,and strain.I do it though.I take off alot of leaves though,so maybe that helps.

I usually end up vegging for 2 to 3 months too.

Currently got 17 plants at various stages of flower in a perpetual under one
400wHPS, coco or dwc, pulling @120gms every 3 weeks fwiwH

12 weeks from seed with 4 weeks veg and 8 weeks flowering and you are done with indica dominant strains.
Here is a "SKUNK SPECIAL" i did in 92 days and got 2.5oz from 1 plant.
