Too early to top?

Just a quick question about topping. Plant is a little over 2 weeks. 4th node is in mid leaf sprouting stage.

The nodes are super close together, and the plant is still small, but it seems to be pumping out nodes like crazy. I wanted to start topping to promote branching. Is it too early to top?

Thanks for the shared exp. I just topped it, but I was nervous and sweaty, and it came out more like a FIM. Theres still a bit of the side branch from that node leftover.

Hope its ok.

In reading up on growing you would think that these plants are on a suicide mission and we have to be there to save them at every turn. These plants really want to live. Here's a pic of a stem that I pretty much snapped in 1/2 trying to LST it. It's almost completely grown back together now. The top 1/2 didn't even wilt.

Yeah, after all it is a weed. I figure its just like having a young child. Kids are surprisingly durable (you learn that quick as a dad), but every two minutes early on I was still checking to make sure he was doing all right.

Then the first time they face plant running around in they yard, get up and laughing and continue on, you kind of get it.

I'll post pics after growth starts to show.

From what I am reading, and you guys are saying, it seems that topping is pretty much successful by default, as in you can't really mess it up. Would you recommend topping each new node as it appears? I want to keep the plant wide, my stem had some decay issues as a seedling, which it has rebounded from brilliantly. But the stem between the two nodes above the first have almost doubled in width the stem below the first node.

Check this thread out. I think it will give you an idea of what might happen if you do what you're thinking.

Also look into LST. It's really easy, doesn't stress the plant out as much as topping and accomplishes the same thing. I found a 100' roll of wire for it at the home depot for around $2.

When I first started I was all about wanting to do the ScrOG method. Now that I've a little bit of practical experience I think I will be going with LST for a while.

Oh noes. So of course after saying what I did, my plant took a turn for the worse.

After topping, my leaves started wilting badly! I am assuming it is a watering issue. I know its not over watering. Its been getting less water than several cacti I grow in my house.

The leave are wilting, not drooping. My guess is that with other plants that I have that wilt, they just need a watering. There also hasn't been any growth from the tops, and growth in general has seemed to be slowing. Hoping that a good feed of water will help. It has been a while after all.

Duplicate, I was in the exact same seat. I was all gun ho for Scrog, but I figured I am new and didn't want to mess up and waste a plant, I decided to go with a combo of light topping and heavy LSTing. LST just seems easier, less risky, and seems to be ideal for my space.

Just hoping my little one bounces back.

Edit: Under a diagnosis page in a link from another topic here, I found what may have been my missing key piece of information. It was from the Growery Diagnosis page. "Leaves eventually hang completely limp and get crispy to the touch(Under watering)" <--- I couldn't describe my leaves better.

Wow! as its my first grow, I am just growing one out. To learn and to build experience, so that next round I can step it up numbers wise. I have to say seeing that question thread, and that pic of where you are now, gives me alot of encouragement!

Watering the plant almost immediately brought it back to life. The leaves were almost all hanging very wilted straight down. An hour after a complete watering ( I think my drainage was too good, so I had to water let it sit and re water and drain of excess to ensure all soil was wet) and it bounced back to almost 100% within an hour and today it looks healthier than ever.

Read that thread. Cool that you got free nutes! That can really be encouraging. I have to try to hunt down some nutes in the next few weeks myself. I have to find them in store as I cannot order over the net. How did the general organics stuff work?

I am going to see what I can find, and get some opinions here. Sadly we don't have any reliable grow shops. I don't want to resort to miracle grow.

heh, I decided the first thing I wanted to learn was cloning. I don't ever really want numbers like this for a while. It's a pain. A good pain. But too much good pain. :D

Yea! I read up on it here and I found out a lot of people did lol. And I thought I was special. :) They just called and asked for the sample box. They seem to be working. I'm still a newb as well so I can't say how they compare to other products.
