Too cold?

I have on order a 4" and 8" vortex fans. I am wanting to mount them in the attic because my growroom is right below. but would like to ask you guys a question first. Winter is coming fast where I live and my attic is going to get very very cold. Were talking -20 to -40. Will running these vortext fans in a room where it's -20 or colder harm them or will they be fine so long as they stay running??? What ya think?

no they will be fine, depending on how the humidity is, where they are drawing from

Drops of moisture will freeze and could cause friction issues. But they should run just fine

The bigger issue here is, what do you plan on doing with -20 air in your grow room

Id advise actually asking place selling, nothing alarming about that.
Every fan will have a specified operating temperature range. Of course if they never turn off it could make a huge difference.

No plans on using the -20 air I'm just looking for a place to put the fans as my grow room is quite small. It will also be easier to deal with sound issues if they are stored up in the attic as well. Thanks for the help.

Geez, I hope you mean Celsius, but regardless that's cold ! I didn't know anyone was growing pot in Antarctica. I guess the strain you are growing is ICE? yuk yuk yuk

The heat from the exhausted air passing over the fan blades and the heat generated from bearing friction and electrical resistance ought to keep the fans themselves significantly warmer than the surrounding air. In fact the cold will extend the life of your fan bearings. It would be better I would think to keep them running 24/7 though as any plastic in the fan will get brittle at such cold temperatures should the fan stop.

Winters are cold in Canada. We heat our houses but we don't heat our attic :) most people don't use there attic as livable space just storage. I'm growing cannicopia Gov mule and chuck D in my heated and insulated shop but my attic above my shop will be cold. Hope this makes sense ;-)

I bet it feels really, really nice to walk into a warm grow room surrounded by plants in the dead of winter. I used to live in a cold climate like that, I eventually moved. I couldn't take it.

i think dr dog nailed it - i'd be careful of cold drafts from the intakes if that applies to you.
