too cold??

i have 2 plants with a couple problems. first the new growth started to come out a very bright green color, then they started to get the claw(rams horn). they are under 1000w HPS, in coco, being fed 8ml GH micro, and 16ml GH bloom daily, with a little cal-mag+ here and there. I've also added some hygrozyme a few times. they were doing fine for a while, then i moved them to a new room and these 2 problems started. the lights on temp in the new room is about 68-72 then at night time it drops to 58 for the majority of the time. would these low temps be the cause of the problems? or is it something else? if more info is needed please let me know, and ill try and get a couple pics up pretty soon.

Thank you for any and all input!!

Yes that drop in temp is causing the leaves to go bright light green. The nutes will have a hard time getting absorbed . The leaves might be clawing because of overwatering do to and or insufficient pot size .

thanks for the input El Vexilix, I'm trying to do what i can about the temp getting that cold at night. but i don't think i'm overwatering, coco can usually take a lot of water. and they're in about 1 1/4 gallons of coco, and about a foot and a half tall. the weird thing is there's another plant in there with them, a different strain, and its not showing the same symptoms, besides just a little bit of the bright green new growth.

anyways thanks again, i hope i can get the temps up and get these into flower soon.

if anyone else has any opinions please speak up!! all are welcome!! maybe some ways to keep the room warmer at night time?

Have you though of switching the lights to be on at night instead of the day to deal with the cooler night temps?

oh, the lights are on at night, forgot to mention that. sorry for any confusion, when i said night time temps i just meant when the lights are off, which is during the day. we've just been having some cold weather around my neck of the woods.

thanks for trying to help though, i appreciate it.

Hi bubbless, i've been experiencing the same problems with my crop. I have my lights on during the night to help deal with the cold temps. My problem is when the lights turn off, the plants get really cold because my basement isnt really insulated that well, anyways ,I recently went to home depot and picked up a little heater to hopefully help out the problem, it think it was on sale for like 20 bucks. I keep it on low setting 24/7 and my plants are just now starting to flower. Just so you know, they wont flower and will grow very slow with cold temps. My plants were in veg for like 3 months from seed, and i've been in flowering for about a month now, and i should have buds by now, but now im forced to wait longer because i just put the heater in there like a week ago, so its worth it to invest into a little heater.

Hey guys,

If your plants are on the floor, get them up of it to raise the temps in the root zone. Use lumber, styrofoam, shipping skid, whatever...the floor will suck all the heat out.

Hey guys, I have been lurking for sometime, and this is my first post. I had the same problem with cold temps, and all kind of symptoms. I bought an oversized seed starter heating mat and solved the problem. It also uses very little electricity and the roots are nice and happy now!

Is a large catch tray considered something that "keeps things off the floor?" Some of mine in some pretty big tubs......how high off the floor would you recommend Pete?

Yah, you just want an airspace between the floor and your pots/trays. Blue/pink construction styrofoam is excellent as an insulator but bricks, 2x4s, anything really will work.
Direct physical contact with the floor will suck the heat out of them.

The heat mat is a great suggestion and a must for me at certain times of the year.

Thank you so much for all the great input everyone!!

so, my plants are on the ground of the grow room, which is a thin piece of plywood, about an inch and a half off the basement floor. so i'll get them off that floor as well to see if that'll help too.

so far i've got the night temps to about 62, a little better than the 58! I really like the seedling heat mat idea, because of the low electricity.

Hovz, thank you for the advice about the little heater, but for the most part those things use around like 600 to 1000 watts, atleast the ones i saw, and that will add just a little too much to my bill for my likings. but i appreciate the help, and if it comes down to it i may just have to go that route.

so here are a couple pictures of some of the leaves from these two plants, now there's some other problems rather than just the bright green new growth. all these leaves were picked from the top 1/4 of the plant.

bubbles, i found a garage/greenhouse heater at my local home dept...its like a small tube style heater, about 2 foot long and its only 70w:woohoo: ,,,i lift my plants of the ground (plants in a tray) and put the heater underneath them...this seems to work a treat and keeps the roots warmer than the surrounding air.... happy roots happy plant

keep it green

The heat mat is better because it puts the heat directly into the rootzone, where plants need it most. If you keep your roots in the ideal temp zone, the foliage part of the plant can withstand greater extremes of temp high or low.

Sometimes it's not practical to use a heat mat (too many plants, too expensive) and a heater setup like Highlander mentions is the next best thing.
