Rosy, I don't disagree with what you are saying. Unfortunately, to prove that second-hand cigarette smoke is harmful to people, you have to eliminate all other factors, something that was not done on most of the studies. This will tilt the evidence.
As a smoker, I am fully aware of the risks of smoking. Forty seven years of smoking has left me with C.O.P.D., and ,due to the addictive nature of nicotine, I am still smoking. What makes me pissy is the politicians who use this as an excuse to heavily tax the poorer segment of our population. They say that it is to get back all the costs associated with medical problems and to keep young children from smoking. Florida sued to tobacco companies and got $20 billion. The first year, they spent $75 million on anti-smoking ads aimed at young people. The second year, they found other social programs that would help them get re-elected and they only spent $1 million on anti-smoking ads. While I lived in Florida, I never felt that the state would help me with my C.O.P.D. I was only one vote, and they were interested in millions of votes. Perhaps they will find that sugar, chocolate and McDonalds cause obesity, which leads to heart attacks. They can then put enormous taxes on them and we will see how you non-smokers like to be singled out for large taxes.( I stay away from sugar, salt, and McDonalds, and I can live without candy).
