Toad Fishing

Back when I was a kid, there wasn't much to do in a small town. There was only 3 TV channels, and if you weren't into Hee Haw, or Wheel of Fortune you had to get your entertainment where you could find it.

After dark, the porch light would attract bugs, which attracted Toads. I would take a piece of black thread and make a couple small loops at one end, then make a good knot so it looked kinda like a bug. Then I'd tie it to a stick and dangle it in front of the Toads.

It was funny to watch, and if you flicked your wrist, old froggy would fly a couple of feet giving other Toads a shot.

Anyone else try this, or something similar when you were a kid?

things were more elegant in simplicity than of today.

ipads and focus in general are the current conundrum.

innocent entertainment is still accessible though too.

corollary today would be blowing up cows in minecraft (game).

Used to shoot a bats circling a street light with a bb gun. Only ever hit one, and it got up a flew away. Good times.

OK don't hate on me. When I grew up in the Midwest around 4th of July we would catch toads, shove a firecracker down their throat, light it and turn the toad loose. They would go hop, hop, boom and you can guess the rest.

I remember hunting Toads in Texas..

I remember hunting Toads in Texas..

We used shotguns. The old farmers would get upset if you were too close to the herd.
I had an old shotgun:party: go off in my hand, luckily I only got a scratch.

And of course you only hunt Toads when you are stoned.

I knew this crazy bas***d who kept homing pigeons, if he got a useless one he'd tie fishing line around its feet and let it fly off, then tug n take its feet off, seemingly a bird won't try to land without feet n flys till it dies, whatta **** he was.

We used to find the older soda and beer cans that had the sides that were straight from top to bottom before they came out with the crimped ones they have now. Take six and take the tops and bottoms off and on a seventh put an inch hole near the base of the can. Use duct tape to assemble into tennis ball canon with the seventh can on the bottom that still has its top. Tennis ball will fit in these cans well, spray a small amount of lighter fluid in the hole of the bottom can, shake, and point in a safe direction because it has the potential to go a city block.
Duct tape is a big flaw in the design though unless only using a couple times. It will for sure eventually catch fire during use, happened to us. We would use it until the tape got so hot it would fall apart. I know there are pvc versions, this was done by kids in the seventys
