To spray or not to spray?!

This goes out to all fellow indoor growers.

It seems like the endless discussion about flushing begins to get a wee bit boring.

So, what about spraying your buds with water before harvest, in order to get rid of dust and other nasty stuff that could have come into contact with your buds?

I spray my indoor plants once or twice, but only during veg, and not more than once a week.

The buds in my recent indoor grow start to ripen and fatten up, according to my experience they could take 3 more weeks before harvest(some of them maybe even longer).

There is good ventilation, fresh air, and I try to keep my growroom as clean as possible.

Nonetheless the idea of giving the buds a soft wash before harvest seems interresting to me.

So what about YOU ?

Is anyone out there who tried this before?

My suggestions would be:

Only spray before the light goes on, to allow the plants to get rid of all the moisture before night turns in(cooler temperatures and high humidity will most likely invite mold to those icky sticky fat flowers).

Don´t "overspray" them,- only give them a light shower.

A few daze before harvest you can allready cut the fanleaves, this will also allow you to reach the buds better while spraying(or should I say "dusting" :chin: )

It´s not a good idea to spray your buds and harvest the next day.

According to my experience, ultimately before harvest, the medium(and therefor also the buds) should be dryer than usually.

Somehow I also think that distilled water would be nice, or fresh rain water, or even water from the lake nearby which has officially certified drinking water quality?

What do I know anyway...

So many thoughts...

Any answers?

I mist my plants once weekly with a spray bottle and soak the buds. Just for the heck of it, I left one plant that I never sprayed and it has the smallest buds. In nature, it is common for them to be wet and one of the ways the plant protects the buds from water is to create THC. Next grow I am going to not spray 2 plants to be more certain, but from this grow the buds are larger on the buds that are misted weekly. I spray them in the morning when the lights are on and I leave a fan on them for the day so they are dry before the lights go out.....

Thank´s for your reply.

I am also an Outdoor grower, so rain during flowering is not new to me.

But those indoor plants have only been sprayed twice during the end of veg, since they are on 12/12 there was no misting going on, so maybe I would shock/stress them now with a little spray,--- who knows?

There is no scientific evidence that rain makes the plants produce more THC.

On the other hand it´s proven that low humidity during the flowering period could increase the THC level in the buds(of course also depending on several other circumstances..)

I totally agree with you on the point that rain is a natural thing,- but too much rain during autumn, and your flowers can easily turn into budrot on a stick.

And another suggestion:

Maybe the buds you spray look bigger and have more weight because they have more water in them?

Anyway, thank´s for contributing to this thread,

and best wishes,

How far into flowering are you and how many plants do you have? Maybe you could spray just one and see if it makes a difference. The water really doesnt soak the buds after about 5 weeks because they are coated with resin. Trim some bud and try washing it off with plain water. I swear it is waterproof, lol. I know what you are saying about the mold though. That is why I spray them when the lights first come on and leave the fan on them. The water is pretty much dried off in a few hours that way. Good luck whichever way you choose and I hope your harvest is a good one.....

Yeah...

Yeah...

This grow was a real rollercoaster ride, but I guess those buds will turn out pretty fine.

I got 3 relatively big Sativa dominant girls, and one pure Afghani looking small and compact pheno.

Small scale grow this time, only for my personal headstash, and maybe one or two close buddies...

To let them dry faster after the spraying, I can also place them on my terrace(on a sunny day...)

I´m soon gonna post some pictures of those girls here on ICMAG.

And yeah, I also thought about trying it with one single plant first.

In this case that would be the "High Sierra", a cross made by my fellow Overgrower "Marksurfs".

A very small, extremely compact phenotype, definitely not a big yielder, but nontheless attractive, because she´s very easy to handle(doesn´t need much light, would be great for sea of green growing/just cut off a few of those fat fanleaves, - otherwise they would shade the buds too much or even compress them/ damn, such and interresting pheno,- nice smell too... :yummy: )

Yeah, let´s start with the Sierra,- maybe :chin:

Still hesitating

One Love,

In my space and time it´s almost six´o clock in the morning.

Gonna go to bed now and sleep until lunch(damn students...)

Good "night",

I've always stoped 3 weeks into flower mainly becasue I was feeding I've never thought to wash them before harvest. I look forward to hearing what yall find out if the buds dry soon I dont think mold will be an issue.

Hi Spicecowboy

I spray my ladies a couple times aweek right up till the last week before harvest. They love it.It helps to keep them cleen and dust free. They always get sprayed just after lights out and i don't leave any fans on or any thing.I just spray and close the door thats it.I have a green incandecent light bulb in my flower room so I can enter after lights out.The ladies are not photo sensitive to green light.Hope this answers your questions.
