to much light?

30-40 sqft? you sure? thats more like a room. 500 watt / 30 sqft = 16.6 wpsf. that would not be enough light. 2000 watts would give you 66.6 wpsf, which would be ideal.

my bad maby i did the rquation wrong but my grow box is 5ft long 3ft high and 2 ft wide. so how much light would i need for that

thats only 10 sq ft of canopy. you gave cubic feet for the room which you'll need for ventilation calculations...so hold onto that number.

500w/10sf= 50wpsf ... tad lower than the previous poster's "optimal" amount of 66.6. probably doable, but it wouldn't hurt to go with a single 600. problem is that you are in a long rectangle rather than a square, so the 2x250's will probably work best for you even though its not the optimal amount of light. (according to the previous poster. i am an outdoor guy so far, so I don't have my own opinion of optimal)

I don't know about "optimal" but, it's considered the "standard" with 100 watts being the point of diminishing returns. More watts means more CFM and more CFM means more noise/less stealth. Either way, 500 watts will only cover a fraction of his room.

I think that 50 wpsf will be good for your cab. you do have very limited vertical space tho, have you considered T5's? just throwing out other ideas. you are def gonna need to air cool those 250's

i was thinking about throwing in a crap load of cfls but i wasnt sure how many i would need....

what would some of u pros use if this was your setup

Depends on how much you are willing to spend on cooling. Peace GS

i dont want to spend much but i guess if i need to to grow flame i will,,,

my budget is $1000 and i already have the cab so i think i got enough to get some good cooling

he did the math wrong. cubic instead of square footage. the "room" is a cab and its only 10sq ft.... he's golden. unless i am retarded/confused.
