This is a 1.5 gallon square pot. I am growing in organic soil and im worried this has to many holes and will drain my soil away, i think this is supposed to be for hydro. So is this to many holes? If so, should i ductape? or put newpaper on the bottom? Any info would be great.

That pot shouldn't be a problem. Some will spill through when you fill it, and when you 1st water, but after that, the dirt should fill the holes, as they are small. Good luck!

If your soil is fine enough to drain away, I think you're using the wrong soil. Some soil recipes call for as much as 40% coarse sand or Perlite.

I haven't grown pot in a pot for years but, isn't the bottom inch of the pot supposed to be filled with rocks, gravel or marbles etc to prevent finer soils from compacting at the bottom, blocking the holes.

My soil does have perlite so no its not that fine, it just seemed like alot of holes. A few people put rocks on the bottom but if your soil is fluffy like it should be then there isnt a reason for rocks on the bottom.

Yeah buddy, the only difference is you were asking about mundane tips on breeding which is a widely written and discussed topic and verily has numerous stickys. While my inquiry is about a specific styled pot, which there are hundreds of different styles and designs. Therefore my question is impossible to garnish any helpful info with the search function while yours gives you pages of info. :spank:

put a 2-3 inch layer of perlite on the bottom then your soil i drill holes in bottom and side of containers all the time. my grow bags have slices cut in them :muahaha: the slices and holes provide super root airation especailly if container is 1/2 inch off ground. the perlite will help the soil to not drain through holes you may experince a little soil in the runoff at 1st. should subside after few waterings

Soil consistency has more to do with drainage than the holes in the pot. Make sure you have enough amendments that aerate the soil.. Perlite, Vermiculite, Gravel, whatever you like..

Those pots will drain fine, you will need to find your plants rhythm. Feed and water, as the pots get lighter.

You consider a breeding question less important than some holes in your container?

A simple search on drainage would reveal your question's answer...

My questions on breeding were fairly advanced,
you're talking about poking holes in plastic here... oooook buddy

And have you ever seen plant containers in stores? They all look like yours.
And why would more drainage be bad for your plants? You WANT good drainage, if you have low drainage at the bottom of your pot, eventually the roots will rot because they'll be sitting in a puddle half the time.

There ya go... I didn't even do a search to answer your question, that's just logical. LOL
