I would welcome someone to come in and spend 20 million developing the ultimate bud genetics. As long as I could somehow pirate it for my own use. Short of that it would still be cool to see 1000 acres planted and ready to harvest. Probably wont happen though.

if it is legalized, then pharmaceutical companies will be on it in a flash.........buying up the rights to all the strains, ruining them for general consumption, whilst suing this community for growing their intellectual property....

Methinks you have smoked one too many bongloads, son.

Many of us are already cultivating our own strains. They can't buy up the rights to the genetics unless they ALTER those genetics... and then they'll only have the patent on the genetics that they altered themselves.

Monsanto doesn't have a patent on soybeans... only on monsanto-brand genetically modified soybeans.

so many people are being tempted by this shiny apple, one bite into legalization and cannabis is fucked.........

Gonna need a better argument than the one above if you want intelligent people to take you seriously. I'll take competition from major corporations (though it won't happen unless it's federally legalized) over jail time for possession any day of the week.

yeah you want your legal meds.......and thats all you want.....must be good if it happens right ?

It'll be better than it is now, and laws will still be able to be modified or redacted if need be. That's the beauty of democracy. As the times change, the laws can also change.

the only way we can keep ganja's soul, is away from big business....

So grow your own. Encourage your friends to grow their own... and then GIVE IT AWAY! If everybody is getting SUPER DANK for free from their friends, there'll be no need to go buy it from Walmart.

If your goal is to keep the "soul" of ganja alive, use your 25sq feet to provide free seeds to the world.

Hey folks I shot some questions over the to Tax Cannabis 2010 team, these were questions that I saw other members ask so hopefully their answers will be helpful. I just sent another email asking about protection for employees/potential employees

1) It says you can grow in a 5x5 area, and all harvest can be
possessed on the premises it's grown on, but you can only legally
possess an ounce. So if your 5x5 yields you more than an oz, what do
you do with the extra harvest? And where can you legally store it?

You can legally store anything above an ounce in your residence. We wouldn't recommend traveling with more than an ounce if you're not approved otherwise.

2) It says a 5x5 are per residence. Does this mean that regardless of
the amount of occupants, you can only have one 5x5 grow per household.
Like say my 3 roommates and I all want to grow, will we all have to
share that 5x5 area or so we each get our own 5x5?

5x5 per private residence. You may live in a county/area with a bigger regulation but unfortunately, to prevent illegal sales, the restriction is 25 sq. ft/household.

3. It says that the limits in the initiative can be made less
restrictive by the legislature, does that mean that one day the
legislature could lower the age limit and allow smoking in public
without having to pass another ballot initiative? A lot of people I've
talked to feel that an adult is an 18 year old, and if they can
legally buy a gun and go fight in a war they should be able to buy a
joint every once in a while, and a lot of people would also like to
relax outside and smoke some cannabis, much like tobacco users are
free to smoke their cancer sticks outside and around their kids all
they want.

Yes, the measures in our initiatives are floors but we allow local governments to make changes as they see fit. They can't make things MORE restrictive but they can make things LESS restrictive.

EDIT: Here's my question about employee protection (or, in actuality, the lack thereof)

Q: I see the part that says "no person can be discriminated against for following the law... an employer may only address use if it actually impairs job performance" my question is: is this section to be interpreted that no employee/potential employee can be fired or not hired simply for testing positive for cannabis? Pretty much banning the testing for cannabis by employers unless they have reason to believe it is causing trouble in the workplace?
A: Unfortunately, it would be beyond the scope of what the initiative could ask to make it so employers couldn't set their own policies in regards to cannabis consumption. For that reason, employers can still discriminate against cannabis users though policies have become much more liberalized. Furthermore, if this initiative is to pass, time will go towards developing better impairment calculators to better see if cannabis consumption is recent enough to affect work production because cannabis stays in one's system for so long.

I live in Nor-Cal, it will mess up the economy we have going here.

Big time outdoor growers will buy so much shit when harvest comes around, its really good in my mind.

If legalization doesn't mess up the prices then i totally agree, i DO NOT sell cannabis.

Of course there are those on this site who are lazy ass punks who only want to keep it illegal cause they grow to sell. Get a job boy. These cannabis sites start out as places for people who love cannabis & are praying it's legalized in their lifetime. Then you get all the cash cropper Indica sellers. Lazy b*tches.....
