To Code: Rope Ratchet, Yo-Yo, or Chain

Does your state have a code against using non-chain suspension devices? I heard that only chain is allowed for registered commercial facilities in Colorado. Is this true?

I'm trying to see what Oregon might do when they make the rules. No sense spending hundreds on something that will be banned.

I suspect that "code" installations would need to be chain or threaded conduit, same as any commercial luminaire, maybe steel cable.

Rives would know, I think.

I just ordered a set of rope ratchets. Hope they work out. They look sturdy and reliable. For commercial i agree you would probably need to use chain or something.

I wire grows in Colorado I am a licensed electrician and my understanding is that you can only use a permanent installation. This is the all about what the inspector wants and how he interprets the code.

Rope ratchet work most of the time

On a side note recently I had a grow where inspector required jack chain and air craft cable rated at 50# the client was running big Kahana hoods, he had been running on a pulley system but was given a notice to correct the problem.

So does this mean that Uni-strut with down threaded rod is the prefered method?

150# chain and 150# carabineers for my big kahuna hoods (x4). they weight about 50# each.

the 150# chain was .10 more than the 75# and the 150# suits my needs better.

Yes, all thread is the best choice but makes moving lights a pain in the ass if they even can be moved depends on the situation it also requires you to modify most hood and then the are no longer ul listed and do not meet code requirements. The best method is gravita's that come ready to be set on all thread, the gravita's also orequire little to no movement with a big veg room with lights set at a certain height and multiple flower rooms with light set at a certain height.

And there was 2 jack chains 50# each 100# total plus an air craft cable on every light.

Update on the rope ratchet. It works so far and was very easy to put up. The light just glides up with a light pull upward of the ropes.

I have the Apollo brand. Don't know if they are any different on the insides. I hated the yo yo setup, But that was a long time ago. Maybe the design changed?

Probably the same design just renamed so far 4 out 6 cracked, two are just ropes and the clamps now, It couldn't even handle holding up one side of an 4 light system and they claim
150 lbs..POS design...2 yo-yo's on one side of an T-5 system and I can placed it anywhere at a weird angles etc..
