coes anybody use this method vs cloning a motherplant? how well does this work with cannabis? this method sound interesting and if its not too complicated, id like to try it.
I've seen tissue culture being done and as far as I know, you need a good deal of specialized equipment, growth hormones, incubators, all that. If a relatively rich company wanted to use such a method to transport strains between continents, that might work but I do not believe it practical. Another fact to take into account is that it takes many, many months for the tissue to form into a plant of any appreciable size at all. Simple cloning is a far faster, easier and more efficient way to acquire a motherplant.
theres a t.c. kit that i was checking out and i was thinkin that it might be fun to try it out wit cannabis. i am going to do some research and see what i come up with. thanks for your insight skylined.
My ears are burning.. lol I don't know all about it I just know one guy that has put together a kit for doing it. It's about 300 bucks and bascily you need to make a little clean room area and get super anal about cleaning.
From what I understand you can keep 100's of plants in the fridge in a gel. This is cool but if you want to get one of those growing gain it's going to take some work and a lot of time. Again, from what I understand you have to treat the tissue with hormones to induce root growth and other hormones to to induce leaf growth. All in all it takes like 6 months to get something from tissue to anything worth cloning let along to flower.
To me I think it's for breeders that need to keep breed stock for future projects. I can be and easy way to transport plants also.
If you try it best have about 400 bucks to burn and be ready to fail a few times as you have to be lab clean. Bunsen burner and all. I'd like to try it just for kicks but.. It's a project..
I'd like to get some agar and try to root in it.. I think that would look cool.
yeah, legion. it seems that way. after some research i conclude that the resources i would need are unattainable at this time. maybe in the future i will try but right now i think growing one of those "bonsai mums" will work better for me for keeping a mother for a long time. if i ever find a particular strain/pheno somewhere abroad, it sure would be able to have this abiility. its worth looking into.
tissue cultures are easy. if you can afford to setup a grow room you can afford to dabble in tissue cultures. seriously you can do it all a kitchen table and its taught in every low budget jr college campus around the US. im not saying that it wont take a lot of practice to get it right for cannabis but it can be done without breaking the bank (under $500). if you plan to be growing for the remainder of your life or for the unforeseeable future tissue cultures would be great as you could literally have 1000s of different strains in your fridge. so you may want to do a run of kali mist, columbian black and gdp one grow cycle and thai, black domina, haze the next.
