Not sure where to post this .......

I need to move and have bad credit but I have no unlawful detainers (I'm in Calif.). Last time was a nightmare to rent and had to put up with a lousy place. I was thinking of creating a duplicate credit file or something ... Any tips on that or any suggestions on anything?

just have the cash on hand, a good reference and offer a larger deposit...oh and having the same job for a year or more is also a +

There's plenty of sites that have scams on repairing credit etc, but are ALL of them scams ....eg one hints at creating a Nevada corporation that gives you a different 9 digit # (EIN) to use instead of a SSN etc ... I don't know all the details ....

Also, I could claim the bad credit was from an ex g/f (or wife) and see how sympathetic they are - could offer extra rent or deposit

^^ extra cash yes ... cash on hand a good idea ... same job not for me as I"m noving up North ... way North! so I'd have to say I'm self-employed for many years as I'd be new to the area ..... hmmmmm ..... wonder if some bank statements would help?

How far North? ... If your goin' as far as Alaska your bad credit won't keep ya from renting a house.

Same w/ any other place I've lived (I dont have bad credit, but I know some people w/ HORRIBLE credit....and they rent houses)

not quite that far north!! staying in Cali, but to a more friendly locale ... I know if you look long and hard enough, I'm sure you can find something, but I want to have a decent place ... the last time all I could get was an apt. in a lousy area and I ended up busted after a year

Money talks. Home owners just want to make sure you're not going to thrash their property. If you can cough up extra, most businessmen and women will turn a blind eye to your credit report.

As far as fixing credit goes, what you can do is dispute the items on your report. The creditors have 30 days to reply to the credit reporting agencies like equifax, transunion, etc... . During this time anything in dispute is removed from your credit report. Make your disputes, and try your luck. You might even get lucky and get a couple of the items removed because you account was sold off to a collection agency.

I know people who have done the above mentioned and completely fixed their credit score.

Look for a problem property, one that needs work or general clean up. Offer to clean it up if they rent to ya. You can become the solution to someone's problem, and the credit will probably never be checked. Cruise around the edges of cities and waterways to find interesting situations.

bofh - tx - but my credit is way way too bad to fix ... had an adult co which was good $$ for 6 years then I let it go and ended up with maybe $40,000 in debts plus I have a $20,000 credit card judgement against me already .... my last landlord said it wasn't that bad - score was something like 540 I think .... $$$ on hand is good tho

haps - tx - that sounds like a great idea - I can just about build houses so I can should be able to fix anything .... gonna drive up this w/e, well prob next as it's halloween, and have a look around
