tipped the top of my plant! some tips of hairs brown...

Well I tipped the top of my plant because the bud grew into the light and burnt the top. Has anyone else tipped their plants b4? What are the results? I heard it makes the cola fatter and bigger.. anyways I took some pics of my tipped plant.. I'll keep an update on what happens for those who are interested in what will happen.

I need help on what this means.. the tip of the hairs of two bud sites at the bottom have turned brown?? what does this mean.. I have some pics here tell me what u guys think... This is only on plant and its happened to two but sites.. is there a problem with the plant??

Dude, NEVER trim/top/train/cut your plants during flower, EVER!!!!

Your plants hairs are probably turning brown from the extreme stress they just went through after you cut, this is a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuge no no! Especially the top cola!! Move the light higher, ANYthing but cutting it during flower.

Theres nothing you can really do now except take good care of them and remember this lesson for next time you flower. It shouldnt have a HUGE effect on the other buds but that top cola will absolutely yield less.

rule of thumb: after about 7 days of flower, hands off.... the only thing i do to my plants during flower is support the huge nugs from falling or breaking off of the plant.

Yea,that "tipping" tops thing is a bit much for me,although if they're growing into the lamp and you cant bend them over...what the hey.Someone here did 1 thread on 1 strain he had "tipped" and it "appeared" to increase the flower girth in the end.Of course you wouldn't know the ending girth of the "untipped" flower if you done went and mutilated it lol.I'm with sensi on this one,"tipping" technology just doesnt interest me in the slightest. When my plants go into the flower room I may remove a few bottom nodes after a week or so but I wont touch the tops

sensirocker, i understand your concern but when i ran into height issues and burning issues i ended up doing some tie downs during flower and i didnt really see an adverse affect on the buds or the plants or even in the smoke itself.

however i did not cut her in any way...tie downs only

yeah, i dont top but i guess i understand why people may FIM, however i think LST'ing is way way more effective because your not throwing away plant growth and you get very bushy multi-headed monsters. If i had no choice and couldnt move the light and had no more space left, i would do an emergency LST and bend that bitch over. But a good gardener should anticipate the hight growth during stretch and make sure that theres enough space before planting anything.

i left room for the stretch but since my plants are mystery bagseed i was at a loss in exact times or heights or anything.

Tie downs shouldnt affect anything really,it could possibly increase yield slightly by exposing more surface area of the plants length to light.Let us know how the tipping thing goes,I'm sure the reason the pistils are brown on top is because they are dying/dead.You just severed the flower

yeah i agree, topping isnt a good idea unless you have height restrictions, although some plants have thick stems and are harder to tie down.I would have 2 agree with sensi its more then likely stress that caused them bottoms buds hairs to turn brown.Anyway im interested in the show,so dont forget 2 update. It sounds like the plant is still early in flowering,so i dont think the topping will have a big negative affect, and that 2nd pic down looks good,so im sure everything will turn out fine.good luck man hope everything goes good for ya.later

Well....you already topped it(which is not the right thing to do during flowering) so there's nothing we can do now bud advise ya of your newbie mistake.

Worst comes to worst...just bend the stems....but don't be cutting any buds man!

Or ELSE!!!!:whip: lol

This thread is moving towards topping at flowering but I am talking about tipping plants. Topping is done in veg to create two new growth shoots whereas tipping involves cutting off a piece of the top nugget in early flowering.. apparently causes the buds to fill out even more. I am giving it a try on this perfect candidate(as it grew into the light and burnt the top) and compare colas on the non tipped plants.
I don't believe in cutting, trimming during flowering. Its just that the top got burnt and I might as well cut it off and try out the tipping technique.
I also want to make it clear that I do not have height restrictions with my plants as my flower box is almost 7 foot tall. I was gone for the weekend and when I came back and one of the plants grew into the light burning the top of the plant.. So i had this plant with a dry burnt top but happily the others are fine.. So i didn't know what to do about this burnt tip.. I'm guessing the top bud growth would be stunted so I posted this in my grow journal and an experienced grower recommended trying tipping the plant. Might as well anyways since its burnt and so I went along with it..
Anyways I will update with pics to show how the plants develop. All my other plants are being grown naturally, no lst, scrog, or topping/FIM so I will be able to compare the tops.
Thanks for taking interest and comments!

Here's new pics of my tipped top and some other plants.. doesn't look like there is much happening yet.. but its only been two days.. I'm really curious what will happen to the tops.
