FINAL COMMENTS:a rundown of the grow as it went...
May 27th, 2005
well, I put 7 seeds in a cup of water the day before yesterday....as of today 5 of em have popped open for me
later today I'll be going to grab some jiffy pots for em.....
then the fun begins
May 27th, 2005
WoooHoooo! All 7 seeds have cracked open for me in the water and are showing their itty bitty tap roots
May 28th, 2005
Welp...all 7 beans cracked open for me.......they seem to all being going well with the exception of one that's got a slow start but hopefully "she'll" catch up
anyway, put em all in peat pellets and they're nestled in a tray under a dome.
They're inside right now just cause it's a crappy day and a bit chilly....I wanna keep em nice and warm till they get going.
Not gonna be much of anything to report now for a few days....till they break the surface.
June 2nd, 2005
a couple of others are just barely at the surface of the pellets....
the two that broke through the other day are now to the point where they're about to touch to top of the dome....so today I will be moving them into their own pots
June 9th, 2005
Ok, well the two in pots are growing nicely .....but the remainder in the peat pots don't seem to be doing much of anything..
sooooooooooooooooo...I have the other 7 beans that I was going to give to Legion.....I'm not gonna give em to Legion any longer I'll be germing those today because if no more of the beans I have in the peat pots break through then I'm left with just two plants ......and I'm not OK with the odds there ....
July 23rd, 2005
the first 3-4 weeks of growth are really phenomenal an all that....but unless you're having problems it's really not all that eventful.....yanno?
Anyway, I did wind up with 2 ...2 plants to grow out ....Good lord wish me luck with sexing!! Please!!
so anyway, I've got pics.....they're on the camera....I'll have em off and on here this afternoon.
The kids are growing nicely.......and they'll be getting moved to their bigger/final pots this evening.
I've topped em both....one (the bigger of the 2) about two weeks ago)....and then I did both of them again about 4 days ago......if I didn't those puppies would be growing over the top of my fence in no time at all. These babies are gonna be very very good sized
I've fed them 4 times ......I usually go on the light side of feeding through the veg cycle then when they hit flower I'll start going full force with em...
They've gotten the lovely Fish Emulsions that I'm so convinced are God's gift to growers...
and also 3/4ths strength Flora Nova and Floralicious ...
Legion brought home some Floralicious Plus yesterday that I'll probably try out on these kids soon....
July 25th, 2005
OK, got em transplanted today into 2 gallon square pots. I had thought this would be their last transplant but as I was doing it I looked at the plants, looked at the pots, looked at the amount of space the root mass was already taking up....and came to the conclusion that there's one more transplant into bigger pots in these plants' future. So I'll probably be doing that just after they go into flower.
So yeah.....they're still in the Ocean Forrest Soil with about a 35-40% ratio of perlite. I gave them a light watering after the transplant with plain ole water. It's been a couple of hours now and they're showing zero signs of stress so we'll probably be doing some cloning and topping after dinner tonight Then tomorrow I'll give them a good feeding.....
and that's that.
July 26th, 2005
So I took just two lil clones off of one plant.....the other had JUST been topped a few days ago and it wasn't ready to have any clones taken just yet. I'm hoping to get in there and get a few off of it before it sexes on me *fingers crossed*
So yeah, anyway, I took two clones....and normally I just dip em in rooting hormone and put em in water but this go around Legion had some rapid rooters and was taking some clones from his plants and went ahead and plugged mine as well.
So, two clones from one plant...dipped in Clonex and plugged into rapid rooters...and like I said, hopefully I'll be able to snip off some more before they flower
damn I wish I had more plants
ah well...
July 28th, 2005
I've got some nice growth already starting to come in just off of the sites where I took clones
and today they got their first feeding of the Floralicious Plus mixed with the Flora Nova ...
Did em both at full stength.
soooo...we'll see
July 30th, 2005
the mild heat combined with the rapid growth had me out there watering em again today No problem though....any excuse to tend to my plants is fine by me. I gave em a nice shot of Fish emulsions in their water....
and did a topping again on the bigger of the two plants (cut two spots). Just trying to keep em as compact as possible while still letting them be theirselves ....
Legion noticed a critter on one of em this morning ....seemed to be a thripe....so they'll be treated this afternoon/evening with a bit of neem. The critter problem hasn't been anything near as bad as we had last year and we managed to get by that just fine so I'm not too worried about this really.
also.....alternating nodes like mad on the lateral stems ....again, don't see much longer of a wait till flowering starts
oh and fyi....the clones are doing great
July 31st, 2005
Legion was out in the garden last night armed with Safers ....so along with his plants he sprayed my plants as well. I don't really see an "infestation" but there were a "few" bugs on em. But......I pretty much expect a few on any outdoor grow. So, no biggie.....
Also, got a bit of the CLAW going on with em but only on a couple of leave tips. again, no biggie as I'm nearly 100% positive it was the fish emulsions I gave em yesterday. They had it yesterday and it's nearly gone today....
so...all in all they're doing just fine..
August 6th, 2005
Legion notices females today
August 9th, 2005
On Sunday I moved both of the girls into their final resting places....5 gallon pots
They got a light watering to get them through a couple of days and any transplant shock ..
Lucky me....not a sign of shock....cause I am THAT good
Today I gave em their first feeding of a wee bit of FF Big Bloom (1/2 strength).
Looks like I am definitely gonna be pulling them down a bit cause they're gonna be totally visible over my fence when they hit full height
Anyway....there's that. I'm a happy camper...
August 25th, 2005
Nothing to report really except that they're really really REALLY freakin growing
September 20th, 2005
We've had a bit of a problem with the powdery mildew but it seems to be nearly under control now
I made a "tea" a few days ago....2 tablespoons of cinnamon in a liter of water. I let that sit for two days then I foliar DRENCHED my plants with it .......
then the next day Legion brought home some Companion 2-3-2 (Plant Food & Microbial Inoculant) w/Bacillus subtilis GB03 ....the combination of the two things seems to have worked a small miracle and the powdery mildew is now barely visible
We'll treat a time or two more but that's it cause I want to lay off a few weeks before harvest
The yellowing on the lower leaves has begun in full force ......as expected. Now I can't stop it....cause that's just the way it goes....but I do wanna give the girls a little more nitro just to satisfy myself more than anything *lol*
So today they got a nice feeding of Open Sesame (a Foxfarm food 5-45-19) with Floralicous Plus (2.8-0.8-0.02) and a half shot of Fish Emulsions ( added one tablespoon to the 2 gallons of water/food)...
So they should be pleased as punch right now ....
and there ya have it....
