Throwing up temporary walls to control climate and light leaks

Cliff Notes: Can I drill a tarp into my ceiling to form a partition within my bedroom?

I am switching to running my lights at night, I built a PVC light stand 6ft tall and I put it right under the only A/C vent in the room, theres a tiny bit of light leaking in during the day plus I'd love to just vent the heat right out of that bedroom which I will do if I can block out light..

What I am getting at here is, what If i somehow constructed a wall to box around the light stand, from ceiling to floor, boxing in the plants with the A/C vent of course air cooled light using air from outside the tarp and then dumping the hot air into the bedroom hallway

My question is this, can I just go get one of those tarps and drill straight into the ceiling and let it hang to the floor or do I need to build some kind of frame? And do you think this will help with temps a lot or not worth it? If it is light tight then I can leave the door open 24/7 and dump the heat out... Im already doin a waterbottle shuffle and dont want to be setting alarm clocks to open and shut the door so no light leaks in.. I can just dump the heat in the same room if need be

Another option but far less desirable because of space would be a cabinent with active intake ducted up to the a/c vent so when the ac comes on it draws 50F air thru the light, and then hopefully ambient temps would avg out. The tarp sounds better though I just dont know shit about ceilings and how much they can support, etc.. just not handy or competent I guess

Don't use a tarp, use black plastic or panda if ya got it. Take a thin strip of wood or plastic, tape the plastic to that to hold while you screw through it into the ceiling, or use a mail gun if ya got one handy, or stapler. Having something rigid to screw through helps hold, and yes I have done this myself.

A heavy black tarp will work, but heavyweight pandafilm is a better choice.

Most ceiling setups outside of suspended ones have joists you can screw into, yes. If you don't need to support much weight you can get away with screws in drywall.

Yeah I watched that video when I was like 15 dreaming of owning my own place haha, I just can't really frame up with plywood and im moving in a few months ( but I am going to do that in my new place )..

When I box the plants in under the a/c vent I'm also a lil concerned it could get too cold during the plant's night cycle, the vent is fed thru a 6" duct and the air comes out 50F at like 175-225 cfm if I had to guess, cools a 10 x 10 room to like 70, when I box that down to like 2 x 3 will that cause too much of a difference between day and night temps, I suppose a small exhaust duct could evacuate the cold air during the plant's night cycle ( I could run on a timer )? During the light cycle all the cold air I can get is needed in there
