Thrips and using spinosad in flower!

hello all, im day 17 flower, just noticed some thrip larva, and leaf damage.
im guessing they came from a couple clones i received via a close friend.
and i even applied neem to these clones as a preventive measure. im guessing larva in the soil....
i took out all 9 huge plants, and hand rubbed neem on each and everyleaf. top and bottom.. very tedious and time consuming.
i ran out of neem, and as ive been reading on here, found out that spinosad works wonders for these pesky bugs..

ive got neem and monteray insect spray on the way.
was wondering if i have to hand apply spinosad to the leaves, or if i can just spray plant and all. also ive read that i can apply to the soil as a drench?
just wondering if i can do this, 17 days into flower. sorry for the post. i could not find a clear answer reading others posts.
thanks icmag!

you actually rubbed neem on every leaf???????.......... wow.

spinosad works great, there is a big thread here on it stickied i think. its pretty non toxic and kills thrips well.

Spray it on, NOT with your fingers will get it on better anyways.

i dont like pesky bugs.
ive read the thread about spinosad.
just couldent find a clear answer to if its okay to spray on my plants, this far into flowering.
thanks for the info!

Spinosad is 100% safe up to day of harvest. Spray it on, top and bottoms of leaves because thrips will hide under leaves and they are fast movers! drench the soil, 1 app usually works (has for me everytime). Inspect in a few days and apply again if necessary.

Don't use the neem unless you want gross, oily, stinky buds. Spinosad is THE only treatment for thrips you'll need.

job well done. also sprinkled some DE on the soil for fun. hehe i hate bad critters.

What amount did you use for the soil drench? I think I have thrips too...I see dozens of them in and on top of the soil, and last grow I found thousands in my coco and in the coco mats underneath my buckets (threw all that out of course.) But the strange thing is I have no or virtually no thrip damage on my leaves and don't see any there. Whatever they are, I'm hoping a soil drench with Monterey Garden will work and want to know how much to use? Thanks...

gnats and thrips

gnats and thrips

mikessong, thrips and fungus gnats are nearly identical. they have three stages of development: egg stage, larvae stage, and adult stage. they are really only a problem in the larvae stage where they follow gravity down into the medium where they eat young root tips. they can and do spread many nasty diseases to your plants...."damping off" is a fungal disease spread by these bastards. its not too much water as many think. if that were true, how would hydroponic growing work?? an infected plant will generally give cuttings which have a high failure rate. if they survive they will grow with less vigor and each successive generation gets a little worse until all your plants are screwed up big time.

killing the larvae will break the cycle of growth and reproduction if you treat regularly
mosquito dunks work well as a soil drench for killing the larvae...
monterey insect spray is also a biological that can take out the eggs and adults...
i have used these products during full bloom with no adverse flavor.
sticky strips are great for keeping track of your success by trapping flying adults. you'll eventually get them under control...good luck. :rasta:

your right bugs, are certainly creepy. but so is all life on the small or microscopic level.
i dont know much about springtails. but if your got thrips.. spinosad= bye bye.
good luck!
