Thread ratings?

Did a search for a similar topic but considering the broad search terms I didn't really find anything.

If five people agree with a post, that's all well and good but unless it's the author one has no idea who. And as they say, idiots vote in numbers.

Any reasoning against? re: has this been brought up before and shot down with good reason?

Click the My IC button underneath the Private Messages linky, top right.

Quite a lot of people leave fun/ banter messages there in your rep, only took me a few years to find ;) ....

It is what it is Mikell... don't like it, turn it off. You can go to your control panel and do that.

Otherwise I don't know what you are trying to imply, it's simply a feature of the software we use.

Ah, I see I haven't explained it very well. I did not intend to imply anything negative.

I do understand how to view post ratings in User CP.

What I am driving at is when someone rates a post as helpful it appears as just that, re: someone anonymously thought that particular post was helpful. An alternative would be to publicly post the username, providing insight to others as to who is agreeing with the post. Simply, JohnQNoober doesn't carry the same weight as someone with the reputation of Microbeman for example.

And a similar concept for thread ratings (1-5 star). In one situation (oddly enough, completely unrelated to me) recently a user was accused of trolling another and down rating every thread they started. While few (I believe) put much merit to the star ratings, the added transparency would make it clear to all what is what. I only mention this as it is related to the point above re: individual post ratings.

This probably should have been posted under Suggestions but I thought there would be more discussion with a new thread.

My intention here is not to criticize the current system but to make a suggestion others may support or not as they will. I personally think it would be beneficial but have little idea what others, particularly management, think on the matter. And so here we are.
