Thoughts on 10/14 light cycle

Not much, the hormone that induces sex is killed off by light,

Whats your reason why do you intend to do this?

yea so that means by having the light off for 14 hours and on for 10 i would be giving the plant more hours in the dark to produce more hormones. im just trying to get more crystals on my buds.

i run 10/14 in flower with no issues (16/8 for veg) just to conserve power and to mimic natural daylight hours. might yield less with shorter daylight hours.

it wont give you extra resin, or ive never seen anyone seriously claim that.

for tropical sativas it can help them flower a bit more convincingly and thus make them possible to grow indoors, i have some original haze on 10/14 atm.

but generally you are just reducing the amount of photons (light) that your plants are getting by 16.6 % so that will impact on growth and yield.

you may end up with slower or less growth.. but the plants will be fine.

So long as they get their 12 hrs of "uninterrupted" darkness, they will flower.

i never knew buds formed crystals......they do form trichomes and having longer ammount of night will not do this its usualy strain dependant and growth conditions not light cycle....you need to read more....and number of trichomes dont measure potency just makes more bag appeal.... some white strains have a ton of trichomes and it has below average potency

I tried this once, and yeah if u do this towards the END it should be ok. But if u did this at like  week 2, or 3...bad news. What I usually end up doing is leaving them in the dark for say two straight days at the very end. When I go to chop, I turn off all lights and let them sit in dark for like I said, around two days. During those two days the frost just builds up man. Good luck with whatever you choose to do.:tiphat:

well according to this guy 10 on and 14 off is best. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SznIKbDT93k

Claims the stretch is 20% less and the flowers show quicker. says it grows less stem and leaf so much easier to trim. Claims it does not effect yield.

Also i was searching the forums and a member here by the name of BigToke, creator of bio bucket system, said in 2005 that he flowers 10/14 the first 3 weeks and it reduces stretch. I guess he went back to 12/12 after stretch. I think i'll give this a try.

hey watts, did you end up giving the 10/14 back to 12/12 a try? curious as well to how well it works, and if it induces sexing quicker
