You might want to have a closer look at the flowers (microscope if possible) and not just the leaves. Leaves can easily change the way yours do but flower geometry/symmetry and pollen shape (not the rough appearance of some outer leaf margin).
No intention on bursting the bubble, just saying. Sometimes, weird or theoretically impossible things really happen in biology .
EDIT: Sorry, but I have no idea what that plant is... I'm not so versed in native American plant species and my identification key only works for a good part of European ones.
