Things are going bad fast! Help!

Background, this is my third grow, I've read a lot, but that's all I know. My first grow was moderately successful and the second was a disaster. I was hoping this would go better.

All the details of my setup are listed below. This is happening with several of my plants. In this example I'm only going to show you #5 because it seems to be the farthest along in the problem and I've got the most pictures of (her).

I'm seeing browning of the older leaves between the veins. The margins of the brown patches are a darker brown. Many of the early leaves were very deformed and/or curled down like a hook at the end. The old leaves continue to deteriorate and brown, but the new growth is green, just very odd. All the leaves hook downwards and seem like they're shaped wrong, slightly deformed. I suspect the problem is the soil I used.

How long has this problem been going on?

-Since the first week after sprouting

What STRAIN are you growing?

-unknown bagseed

What was the establishing technique? (seed or clone?)

-Seed

What is the age of your plants?

-Two weeks

How long have they been in the soil mixture they are in now?

-Since the beginning

How Tall are the plants?

-about 3-4"

What PHASE (seedling, vegetative or flower) are the plants in?

-Seedling

What Technique are you using? (SOG, SCROG etc)

-n/a

What size pots are you using? (Include how many subjects to pot)

-16oz Solo Cups

What substrate/medium are you using? What brand of soil mixture are you using?(percentage of perlite, vermiculite...etc?)

-Miracle Grow Moisture Control (<--why the fuck did I buy this shit?), cut with about 30% pearlite.

What Nutrient's are you using?

-None so far, just pH~6.5 tap water

What is the pH of the "RUN-OFF"?

-7

What method of pH test was administered? Using Strips? pH pen?

-Strips

How often are you watering?

-Usually every 3 days

What size bulb are you using?

400W HPS

What is the distance to the canopy?

-about 18"

What is your RH Factor? (Relative Humidity)

Between 40-60%

What is the canopy temperature?

It's been varying a lot, but the average has been in the 70-80 range

What is the Day/Night Temp? (Include fluctuation range)

-see above, still 24/0

What is the current Air Flow? (cfm etc.)

-plenty

Is the grow substrate constantly wet or moist?

-No, it drys out completely before I water it.

Is your water HARD or SOFT?

-I think it's hard? It leaves calcium like deposits and the ph is very high, like 8.5 (I correct it with pH Down)

What water are you using? Reverse Osmosis (RO)? Tap? Bottled? Well water? Distilled? Mineral Water?

-Tap

Are you using water from a water softener?

-No

Has plant been recently pruned, cloned or pinched?

-No
Have any pest chemicals been used? If so what and when?

-No

Are plant's infected with pest's?

-No

hi

i get the same prob with my small pots, have you got enough drainage holes in them???

Miracle grow soil is strong so dont be feedin them for a bit mate, better still, grab some new soil and put them in some proper plant pots, they may be getting burned with the miracle grow time release ferts

The cups have several large holes in the bottom. I don't water until it's dry a ways below the surface, and I water each one until it starts to drip out the bottom.

I started 1 grow with MGMC with time release fert's and mine looked the same as yours.
Iwas told like mac mentioned it's too hot for young plants ,I repoted them in some good soil and started new beans in the new mix too. the plants recovered but never keep up with the new beans , theres alot of soil mixes here that are tried and true by the pro's here. do a search for soil's (I'm useing a mix in the ORGANICS FOR BEGGINNERS thread)SOOOO EASY for me it LCmix #2,,recipe 1 OR 5 not together

Good luck I N Hail

You are most definitely sizzling them as I type......

They will be dead in a couple days I can guarantee you.

You were right, it''s the soil.

Buy Seed Starting Mix - maybe there is a hardware store or something open tonight - no ferts at all in it. No compost, earthworm casting nothing. Transplant as soon as you can and they might live. If you can't get seed mix then put them in pots of wet perlite until you can.

They only need food after the first 2 weeks, and then a very light feeding regime until they get established.

son of a bitch...I guess I should read the bag more closely next time. I thought this didn't have any nutes in it.

I've never seen "seed starting mix", is this something you have to get at the hydro store? Is there anything I can get at the hardware store that will work? I've seen 'top soil', would that mixed with pearlite be ok?
