Thermo Seeking Vans

Who knows anything about the thermo vans that drive around neighborhoods. When the lights are off is it still possible to see plants? Anyone have experience or any info on these vans. It looked to me like there was a couple cruising up and down the streets block to block. The piece of shit driving looked like a fed too, are they employed by the electric company or is it cops who drive them?

nah,it's not your imagination.

i read in a local paper years ago that a afluent city in the county had purchased a SUV with roof mounted FLIR.they had pix of it.it was marked.
so basically the man can ride around and see heat sig's in each house.
and this was some time ago..who knows what kinda tech they have now..
also the county has these major crime task RV's that have cameras every which way.
im sure they are flir...and who knows.
but these vehilcles are obnoixous you would see them a mile away.

Believe me thermo has nothing to do with being able to "see" plants. To my best knowledge thermo reads the temperature of the warm walls in your grow room. Accordingly this is why helicopters with thermo camera's detect plants of the heat on the surface of the roof. Remember the grow tent's you can buy.....those are accordingly undetectable because the grow area is in a tent. Very hard to read surface temperatures of a free standing structure. Nothing in the world can see "through" walls really.

i saw the van. big and white.. at first i thought it was maybe a cable or phone company driving down the block, but i waited. it was going around 5 mph. on top was a sort of camera/ satalite loking thing and in big lettters said thermo infrared detection or something to that effect.. to be honest, i about shit my pants so i cant remember exactly what it said. but definately those key words.

the lights had been off for three hours alls i want to know is if the plants can retain that heat and radiate it enough for thermal technology to detect.

What a crock of shite. They aren't looking for the "heat" generated by plants, they are looking for the heat generated by lights and ballasts. If plants generate any heat, it isn't much and unless they have some 007 type goggles, they aren't going to see them.

I hear this all the time in the boonies, "they got my plants in the cornfield cause of the heat they put off!" NO Dumbass - they got your plants cause they don't look like corn!

Shit are you in Indiana attic growing? There are plenty of other peeps who use infrared besides the law. Home weatherization for instance. Only in a zero tolerance take all your assets place would they do that. If they wanted to do your house it wouldn't be that obvious. How would they get a warrant based on a heat sig? Maybe you have a kiln, maybe your old and cold and have electric space heaters on? Most organizations would use something like that to support other evidence in an attempt to get a warrant. It is much easier for them to get a meter reading. Get some sun, leave home and don't stare out the windows so much.

Paranoia is a bitch ain't it, relax, if it is your day it is your day. Come to terms with it or get a new gig dude. Think about something else or go for a walk, not a drink.

Definitely not BS. They have them and they use them. Standard operating procedure to get probable cause. I got a chance to play with one. Sees the heat image of your lights right through the walls. You can block it with polyshield or aluminum stuff on your grow room walls. Don't even think of growing without it if you live in a metropolitan area. Cops drive around neighborhoods and can easily spot grow houses. They also use them in planes, to nab you from above. I know this for a fact.

THey can spot outside grows a mile away with the right tech... They have cameras that can read the right wavelength of the reflected sun from cannabis, since it gives off a very specific radiation. BUT this is for outdoor grows, there is no such thing as a camera that can "see through walls" unless were talking x-ray type shit like in true lies with those crazy ass sniper rail guns....

I mean if they had cameras that could see through walls, why would they use an x-ray machine at the doctors office?

Thermal imaging can only read the temperature radiating off of a surface. So yeah if your exhuast vent ends up getting blown on the side of your house (say with like a dryer type exhaust) they can see that your siding around it is way hotter than it should be.

As you can see in the image, its being taken INSIDE and looking at where the dryer vent goes into the wall (I couldn't find a outside shot)

To all the naysayers who dont believe in this stuff better watch out. This was not just a paranoid delusion. Theres a big difference between an unmarked suv you think is following you and a huge van with electric company logo on side and huge letters saying what it is. They have flashing orange lights and like someone said can be spotted from blocks away, due to there unusual qualities and slow pace. I have been doing this for 5 years and this is changing my mind about the safety involved. They werent specifically doing my house, like i said found them in neighboorhoods blocks away. The cops could easily use these images to get cause to further investigate without ever bringing up the vans thermal detection in court since the legality of privacy seems like an easy fight for a good lawyer.

Leo could take most of the growers in the country down if they were free to use all of their toys and I have no doubt that they do in some areas. They are thick on the ground here, knee deep in wod blood. But paranoia does not help, I learned that all coked up back in the late 70's watching all night for the cops that never came, and I was half stupid at that time and there was no real wod. My point to you young alcoholic, was that you have to learn to deal with some paranoia if you want to do this gig.

Six years ago this week, thanks to my little brother, I was brought to the emergency room dead with an 0.055 blood alcohol, and obviously they restarted me. While I put my brain back together, staring at the night sky all night all summer, I decided to go back to the one thing I had loved doing earlier in my life, growing weed. I hope you do not die from the booze lad.

My policy is to thank folks in public, for the negative rep they give me unseen, thanks.

These vans were implemented to make sure there wasn't heat leaks from the sides of houses for energy consumption.

Ya'll are taking to a paranoid place. Chill, smoke one... or maybe stop :chin:

That may be it GT, about 6 times the legal limit, they told my little bro that they never had a survivor at that level before at that er.

Yes I agree, but also that some paranoia is good, as it keeps you on the ball ;)
