Is this the truth?....let's talk about this for a bit!

The Phylos project is for the express purpose of placing cannabis cultivars in the public domain such that they cannot be patented.

No plant, variety, cultivar that is already publicly documented can be legally patented/protected.

All comments welcome good or bad.
Thanks

You can trademark varieties such as a rose plant or copyright it. It needs to be unique and not existing do to so, so if it is documented as public domain it cannot be trademarked or copyrighted.

I have never seen anything that suggest they ever intend to share any genetics or strains with the public. I love the information but would way rather see the genetics shared and preserved than cataloged and hoarded.

I think you misunderstand what Phylos is doing, bigtacofarmer.

They are making their findings public so that these varieties cannot be patented. They're NOT collecting & hoarding these varieties. They're NOT creating anything other than a strain map/galaxy so theres no genetics for them to share. They are a lab that does testing, not a bank that does collecting.

I hope this help you to understand their mission.
