Yup - arrived there in SF - in the spring of 1978 - departed early 1983 - back then most all of the bums/junkies were south of Market Street - around 6th Street - near the Greyhound bus terminal - and over in the Tenderloin district -
- I managed to couch surf for a while - working on Broadway as a bouncer/door staff - then got a cheap room - $60 per week at The Skyway Hotel - just across from The Mabuhay Gardens - where I had some work - helping to run and organize various gigs - at 'The Fab Mab' -

They never seem to learn...

Had to do a 20 minute drive home in a jeep wrangler with my pit bullmastiff mix that was so happy that he killed the skunk that he didn't mind that he got sprayed head to tail.
I was surprised that i didn't get pulled over after passing a cop staring at me driving with my head and shoulders hanging out the jeeps window rolling down the highway.
Another time i was walking a 180Lb fila brasileiro down a overgrown alley in the dark when he saw a skunk sitting just off the side in some foliage and Mac the dog being the shit that he was gave no sign till we were directly beside it. He lunged hitting the skunk so hard that he only ended up with a silver dollar size spot on his brow that had any skunk sent on it. I'm thinking that the poor skunk was never the same afterward.
