Let me start by saying that I try to always be grateful for whatever I have and most of the time I am. When I am not that's on me. Anyway, I have this occasion that I think about often and when I do it puts a smile on my face because the memory puts me right back there at that time even though it was 27 years or so ago- not long but not yesterday. It was a situation where I passed up on something special but didn't know it at the time. It has become a 'regret' but it is a fun regret and one I enjoy thinking about. It's just a tiny little number of an amount but that is all we knew at the time. Tiny. This is no Holy Grail thing, just an enjoyable recollection.
I remember being in 11th grade (1988) and we took a ride up to Morris County for some regular green that was going for $200 at the time. We were going to come back home and unload some q's and get one free. Yippee. So we get to our friends spot and we took care of that pretty much right away. Shortly thereafter a friend of his comes over with this burnt-orange Tupperware bowl-container thing with a lid on it. He says to us that he has something really nice if we want any. So then he takes off the lid to reveal these softball-sized buds that were as gold as I have ever seen or seen since. Sparkly and glowing. I had never seen anything like it..He looks us in the eyes and says "35 an 1/8". We were secretly horrified. We hadn't paid close to that- ever. We were getting a free quarter so we were the victors here so we passed...Because we were idiots. But we meant well...
For some reason this one instance sticks out though I have a few more. Any similar stories to share? Big, small, all is good.
