The old tv antennas

One of my fondest memories of my childhood were the days when we used the regular old directional type tv antenna. For quite a while we didn't even have a rotor to electronicly turn the things.Fine tuning a television station was a job that required at least two people. You had to have one person outside turning the pole with the antenna on it,and one person inside looking at the tv saying "whoa-whoa",or "go back-go back".The pole turner had it sorta' rough sometimes in rainy or cold weather. When we got our first rotor it was amazing. You could turn the knob on the box,go outside, and see the antenna turning by itself! So,we wore out a rotor or two;it was fun! :biglaugh:

HAHAHA! When I was young we lived a little closer to a city and we had the old rabbit ears on top of the black&white set, yes with aluminum foil...lol When you thought you had it just right and you let go of the antenna it was off. Your body acted as part of it..LOL FUN FUN. I think we only got 3 channels back then and one was allways snowey!!!

Good first post!!! Welcone to ICMag Refudean. I think the Old Stoners Crash Pad is a good place to talk about the "Do You Remember" threads!!

Don!

my friends house had it deluxe; they had one of those controls with the big dial to turn the aerial, and they had a zenith tv with ... a remote control! you didnt have to get up to change the channel, imagine that :rasta:

Now that High Def tv is being broadcast over air - tons of folks here in Cannaba are putting back up their roof antennas.

HD can be picked up with basic wire ant., if you have hd tuner...

Amazing pic quality, no signal noise at all, better than the satellite companies, fer sure...

Everything old is new again...

Yeah but in the good old days you could still 'pull in' a distant signal and get a grainy static screen. With digital if you arent within decent range of the towers and can aim your antennae youre kind of screwed.

True enough.

I live within 40 miles of 2 megapolis's - and 100 miles as the crow flies from the hub of New York/Ontario.

I got freakin signals comin' out my ying yang... :headbange

Hell, we used to pull in Cincinatti and Rochester signals on the occasional day with our old wire monstrosity. NIagara escarpment - highest land around for hundreds of miles.

Seeing hd (true uncompressed hd) on a piece of crap wire hanging 18" away is mind blowing.

Makes cable and sat look like shit.
