I just feed every other day. For some reason when I go 3 days without watering it seems they drink everything in the res and the plants burn themselves.

Is this common?

I've not heard of this....if you have a meter or access to one, perhaps you could see what the levels are of your nutrients in the runoff? Second, what happens to your plants when you feed a little every day?

Hello everyone, i like to feed a little every watering way, after reading some of deltas post, ive been using GH Micro and bloom, using the Lucas formula. but i feed at 3/6 every water instead of 8/16. sometimes just plain water. and gonna cut the micro out towards the end of flowering.

i feed every two days and my plants trive! i just followed the directions at the start of this thread. just got two more clones in the hempy buckets lastnit and will feed every day until the main taproot hits the res. and i notice it growing then i go to every two-three days.

Silly question here....but I'd like to learn...how do you know when your taproot has hit the res? I just kind of guess that after about two weeks the roots are down in the res and then I can reduce the frequency of feedings.

I had the advantage of a clear bottom on my makeshift, little hempy's. I noticed the first roots of a rooted clone hit the bottom in ~week... watering everyday until i saw them. Then, water every other day or as needed. I would imagine in a larger bucket it would take closer to 8-12 days for the roots to hit bottom.

i'll match your silly question with one of my own -
Does a clone technically have a taproot? I know a seedling does, but my clones root all at once. No discernible taproot that precedes the mass.
Thoughts?

cool. thanks for the input. I think that a clone does have a taproot or perhaps what I think is a taproot because when my cuttings root, the first root which shows ends up being pretty fat before the other ones come through...it's kinda like the taproot from a seedling.

Hey guys, got a quick question for you all. I got some hempy buckets goin. Some seedlings and some a few weeks into veg about to be flipped to flower.

the problem is that ive been using GH 3part. but im out of it after this last feeding. I got christmas and kiddos B-Day. With funds tied up I really need to put off on buyin some more nutes until after the next pay check.

My question is, how long can they survive on only water? Im a dirt guy and with dirt the nutes last awhile longer than in hydro. So im not sure if they can last two weeks without a proper feeding. thanks ahead for any and all input.

hiya dub, its just like when ya root the clone. that is to say your not going to see the clone grow untill the tap root hits the resivior. i just keep watering (with nutes) every day until i notice the plant is starting to grow.once it does that it means the tap root is in the res. and then i go down to watering (with nutes) evry two days. this hempy thing is just way simple hydroponics, being there is no nutitional value to the medium. i like to flush the res. once a week with ph correct water and then add nutes , this prevents salts build up and seems to keep the girls real happy! like hempy says...it is hydro simplified big time and it works if ya follow hempys dirrections.
indicameds, i believe what will be the determining factor as far as how long yer girls can go without food is how big they are and also how healthy they are. if they're good size and healthy you may suffer a little after so long without nutes. however, if yer not flushing at all i would say you should be alright cus there will be some build up of nutes that have accumilated in the perlite/vermiculite mix. good luck boyz.....peep

Thanks Peep.. rep given. The ones a few weeks along would probably be ok, but im guessing the seedling wouldnt make it. the only thing they have had is superthrive when germed. I guess im just gonna have to bite the bullet and get some more GH nute in the next few days. I found em on ebay for 33 bucks shipped so it aint to bad, i was just gonna try to make it as long as possible. But some of the genetics are the last of em I got and I dont have mother plants of em either. So I cant afford to loose em.
thanks again, and hope everyone had a great thanksgiving..

hey dubwise, how ya doin buddy? ... it doesn't take long before that tap root hits the res, maybe a week or a little longer. When it does it is fairly obvious, you will suddenly seem some pretty intense growth spurts.

and yea, that big fat root that comes out of your clones ... that'd be equivalent to the tap root.

hey indicameds, good thing you order those nutes ... this medium doesn't really retain any nutrients, just whatever builds up and that won't last you long ... MAYBE 2 weeks, but as a girl in flower, she will be eating a lot and you will definitely notice after 2 weeks of just water.

your a good guy putting Christmas and the kids first :)

I think about a week without nutrients would be ok .
or get some ultra cheap liquid plant food 5$ and just go very light until you can afford more gh 3 part .

I am very interested in hempy buckets , how often do you have to water on average using these ?

at the beginning i water every day or 2, then i water every 2 to 3 days once the tap hits the res, depending on how they look / how light the pots feel.

i've left them for 4-5 days before and they survive. in fact, they are on their 3rd night alone right now and i won't see them again until sunday morning, but i'm sure they will be just fine.

hempys are the best!

I was planning to use a 22"x22"x6" tub for a micro grow. I have been told this should work fine. Because of the lower depth what would be a good place to put the hole? Should it still be 2" from the bottom or closer to 1"?

the lower you put the hole, the less of a res there will be, meaning you will have to water more often. on the other hand, you don't want a huge percentage of the root mass sitting in the res.

i'd say shoot for 1.5"-2" and you should be A OK. I've used 32oz gatorade hempy buckets and i still put it at around 1.5", although i've never actually measured.

Two questions I have that I am still confused with after reading this entire thread and multiple other hempey theads. Just so much conflicted info provided.

1) When the plants are in veg and you are watering everday, do you also feed along with the daily waterings? If not, can you provide when you feed? Is it once a week? Once every 2 or 3 or 4 days? I understand that you water everyday during veg, but I am confused about the nute feed schedule. I am talking about using GH Flora micro and bloom.

2)Same question with flowering. Now you are watering every two or three days as needed, do you feed the nutes with each watering or do you stagger the feeding to every other watering?

3) Tap water use for Hempey's. Is is ok to just let tap water sit 24 hours and then check the ph of the water and adjust accordingly before you water? Also when using GH Flora it is my understanding that these products adjust the ph of the water automatically, so that when you ad your nutes to the water the ph adustment is made automatically? So, when watering with nutes, no need to test ph? But when watering straight tap water that has sat for twenty four hours in an open container you still must test and adjust the ph prior to adding to the bucket?

I have seen so much confilicting info on these questions and would like to get some detailed and correct answers thanks.

I feed with every watering, every other day weather in veg or bloom.

I use dutchmasters nutes, so I can't say for GH, but I've never adjusted or tested ph. My tap water is 7.5, I tested it once a while back, and I just add what their nutrient calculator said to, everything is good thus far for me.

1) feed everytime with hempy. i flush on occasion to avoid buildup, but that's like once every 3-4 weeks. I used FF but it should be the same for all nute lines (make sure u are using HYDRO nutes)

2) same as #1

3) I use tap water, lots of people use tap water. it's easier to use RO water especially with Lucas formula, but tap water works just fine unless it's off the charts (600+ppm, 8.5+pH). i'm not sure what your idea is behind letting it sit for 24 hrs? if you are trying to de-chlorinate, that won't work, you have to aerate if you want to do that (throw an airstone in it). i can't vouch for GH nutes, but what is the harm with testing/adjusting the pH both times? either way i shoot for 5.8-6.0 pH for feeding OR flushing.

hope that helps, goodluck, sg

thank you for the response.

So you are saying many indoor gardener's use water straight from the tap without altering it in any way. I have read on numerous occasions that tap water contains chlorine, which the plants dont like, want or need, so the way to remove the chlorine is to just let the water sit for 24 hours, I've read this numerous times (this is an example of conflicting advice provided)on various boards. No need to remove the chorine? Just mix tap water with your hydro nutes, check ph and then water? Can you clear that up for me? thanks
