The NorCal Smoke-Off...12 strains

Hello friends. As you may or may not know, I spent about a year of isolation and grow-liness in Ohio. I ran Ghaze, c99xchemdawgxmothership, some other fun stuff. I wasn't able to blow it up as much as i'd of liked - the landlord literally came over and walked around a few times - I had a hell of a time and introduced myself to the wild world of breeding. GHaze x pineappleMothership anyone? Anyways, i'm living in a 400-sq. ft. apartment now so that will wait. Which leads me to...

Moving to Oregon. I now live in the PacNW...school brought us up this way. I haven't met too many folks in Oregon - well maybe one or two - that are as strain and quality minded as they should be. I'm sure its just a matter of time - Oregon's certainly a hotspot for good herb.

But this is Cali weed, definitely the best i've encountered. Higher organics, compost teas, hours of serious geeking out, and hard work and time bring you fine smoke and this is FINE smoke.

Check it friends:

Up first: Blowfish.

Gunky smelling - fallen fruits and decay - marry with a deep, sinewy spice character. There's just something visceral and overwhelming about the aroma that convinces you its work-a-day look is hiding something significant.

And it is. This rich, pepper-and-peat tasting throat buster grips me instantly. I like this high because its roller-coastery; intense and near-crippling at first, relaxing soaring the next second, but all the while functional. Gets dreamy and trippy 45-minutes in, and the high stays pleasurable for awhile.

Keeper

More to come.

The Strawberry Cough

The Strawberry Cough

Ah yes, the legendary Strawberry Cough. I have heard about it for years - spoken of lustily and craved for throughout the midwest - but i've never had the real thing.

Finally I got a chance to try it.

The appearance is gorgeous; neon-green with light orange hairs. Plenty of trichs. The smell is full of rotting strawberries - obviously - but there's quite a bit of interest beyond its pure fruitiness. It has this overwhelming tropical fruit suggestion also - slightly like some of the pineapple C99's. It also has that non-definable "NL" smell that I find only comes with that strain.

The taste of this bud wasn't necessarily a let down - no herb could ever taste as good as this smells - but it was a little harsher than some of the other examples. Certainly some cough involved.

But this could have tasted like arsenic and I would have still enjoyed it - its all about the high. Instantly, cut-through-lead sativa potency. Floaty. This pot seems to take the weight off your shoulders. It is an interesting thing, this pot: sativa without anxiety, indica without lethargy. Just a great, fly-high buzz that lasts tremendously long and trails off into a nice, sleepy body stone later in the day.

I think its no coincidence that this was the smallest sample I got.

Afgooey

Afgooey

This be the Afgooey. Interesting bud structure - thin jutting-out structures on an overall whispy nugget. Trich production is high, but the aroma's the amazing part. Really unique. Peppermint, spicy, incense. Gummy. Hashy on the intake. But surprisingly, this has a nice cut-through the head floaty feel.

I'd put it a little more to the side of head, but also has nice - and rather unobtrusive - physical accompaniment. Keeps you thinking well though, unlike some of these other strains.

I bet in the right situation this could be a little paranoiac. Even speedier in the vape, though entirely pleasant in a different way. Would get a spot in my garden, actually.

I heard about headband from another smoke report, where the member said his dealer told him it was headband. Sorry to spread misinformation. Whatever it's called, I still want that og kush x sour diesel strain. They should call it sour og.

mmmmm ,thanks for the inspiration with the Strawberry cough.
I'm about to flower that out and try it.

One of the earlier posters was right, i've had a hella time doing any of these reports because i've been so ****ing baked. I'm coming to the end of all of it - one good bowl of each left - so I should be able to get back to it.

Also, afgooey grew on me the more I smoked it and the blowfish got less enjoyable quickly.

I have to say, only having one (give or take) bowl of each of these varieties gives you some serious discipline. I don't worry about it too much in the early part of the day, I can go to work and have something to look forward to. Then I clean my pipe, clear my thoughts, and evenly evaluate each one with a clear untampered consciousness. I forget how different strains are because I often smoke many at a given sitting.

Tonight's entertainment will come to us via Uzbekistan. I really don't know the background of this strain, but i'd like to know. Its really good.
