The lack of decisiveness in the buying face before growing

Yess, sir. I'm finally there. Ready to buy the stuff needed to grow. But haven't decided on what.

Some months ago I came to this forum with the idea that a Northern Lights Bloombox would be the only thing that would make me be able to grow my own. But here I've learned so much. I'm now decided on the secret jardin twin 90, and am going for the panasonic whisperer with a home made carbon scrubber.

But I can't get myself to order. I now finally have the money (what a bliss), but don't know what else to buy.

1. Either a lumigrow led, or a cmh, but can't get myself to decide.
2. What about t5's for vegetative? Can't get myself to decide.
3. What medium, I'm closest to choose airpots, small sizes, to get plenty of smaller plants in a perpetual sycle.

Anyone else having doubts and problems going through with your plans?

If it were me I would choose...

#1. CHM
#2. If money wasn't an issue I'd buy the T5's. If I was on a budget I wouldn't.
#3. Soil, organic

Have fun with your grow! I just started my first grow and it is a really fun hobby. I'm wondering why I didn't start growing years ago.

1. LED lights are expensive and don't provide an ideal spectrum. The CMH is a good bulb but doesn't run on electronic ballast (so you need an old school magnetic ballast).

2. I have a T5 HO fixture with 6500k bulbs. It is great for vegging small (or trained) plants. IMO for these plants it is every bit the equal to CMH or MH and if you train plants well you can probably flower and get a pretty good yield out of T5 HOs. My light meter readings 2" below my T5 HO are very similar the readings 1' away from my 400w CMH.

3. If you want to use air pots or smart pots, especially small ones, I would recommend looking into to Tropf Blumats (gravity autowatering). Small airpots are going to need to be watered frequently and watering these pots can be messy because the water leaks out the sides. Blumats solve these problems. As for medium - I would advocate for something that is easy to source and grow in. There are some good soil(less) recipies in the link below

Good Luck!

buy a factory made carbon filter, 4" brand name filters start at about $60. if you can DIY that works as well for less money, you're a better DIY'er than me.
here's a link to a phat 12X4 200CFM filter.

I can tell you from personal experience that a 250w CMH or HPS will work in that tent without an air-cooled reflector. if you go 400w you need an aircooled lamp.

this side mount 4" air-cooled reflector is the type that fits best. I like to mount my filter inside the tent if I can, side mount allows space to do so. if you want to mount the filter outside the tent I guess any style AC reflector would fit.

there are plenty of other places that carry the above products, I am not a shill for plantlightinghydroponics

what made you choose lumigrow led? I just did a lot of research on led's before I bought mine. I'm still on my first grow, but the led I got is doing it's job.

the lumigrow seems strange to me. for example, the 165w unit only has 26 led's. so that seems like maybe they are running 5W led's, but if they were, they would want to mention this. Ok, the cheapest real grow light lumigrow has is the 165w for $700. I ordered the blackstar lighthouse 240w led for $280 shipped from ebay that uses the 3w led chips, and has 7 band, compared to lumigrows 2 band. i found one post that compares the blackstar to comparable led (twice the cost) that showed the blackstar was using half the electricity and producing 86% of the light. If you bought 2 (for $600) I'm certain you would have more light than one 330w lumigrow (at $1500)

the blackstar led's seem like the most affordable way to grow led right now. If you decide to upgrade later they will make excellent veg lamps too.

Thanks guys!

pinecone: thanks, yes, I forgot to mention the blumats! Having them as well.

stonedar: I saw a easy to build diy screen scrubber to use with the panasonic whisperer, but I'll check out your links and think it twice again. But for the phat: wich fan do you suggest? I was going for the mentioned solution because of silentness.

Phychotron: Ok, I'll check it out. Lumigrow was my favorite based on a couple of threads like this one: https://www.icmag.com/modules/Journal/viewentry.php?journalid=631

Ah,the art of theoretical growing. I have friend who is into it as well,he can quote Cervantes,Brooks and Rosenthal.
How many grams per watt do you get.

panasonic whisper is kinda weak for a tent that size homie, man up on that shit !! at least 4" vortex type to keep negative pressure in there...peace!

Well, I can't quote neither. But as far as I'm concerned, this isn't a contribution to theoretical growing, it's merely an attempt to voice my frustration on the lack of desiciveness. I've read up on fields I never imagined could exist (collodial silver and reveg is some examples), but now when I'm ready to start I just can't choose.

I remember a juggler on Fisherman's Wharf,he would start his act juggling with the statement 'There are forty different ways to juggle'..."This is the only way I know'.
Pick one princess.
I bet that I do two more harvests before you put a plant under a light.

Yeah dude, just get a 400w HPS and a 4" inline fan. Carbon filters that size are cheap. Stop thinking small and futuristic. Go with what works!

Thanks, BongRipkenJR. I've come a long way after first signing up at icmag. You wouldn't believe my plans back then. Now it's at least a tent. Back then I didn't think there were any real alternatives to HPS.

rick_shaw: It'll be more than two harvests, hopefully, for your part. I'm not in a position to grow yet, but I want it all ready so I can start when the surroundings are ready. Thanks for understanding.
