Here's the grow journal of the two Johnny Blaze females and one male gifted to us at the oHIo Grower's "Mini-Cup" at Cedar Point. Thanks and great to the grower that donated these clones! As you opened your trunk and I got my first look of these beauties I realized my vision of enhancing and experimenting with my Rocky Mountain Neville's Haze and this amazing cross of Neville's Haze x Blueberry! Unfortunately, the babies had to survive 3 days in the trunk of a vehicle. The box of clones contained 2 Johnny Blaze females, an amazingly sturdy looking Johnny Blaze male, 2 Sage females and a tiny Sweet Tooth #3 female already in flower, loaded with trichs and 3" tall!

After their ordeal in the dark trunks of vehicles I finally got the babies home and settled into their permanent new homes - 2 gallon pots of well flushed and mixed Pro Mix - resting under a mix of 150w MH and HPS lights in their new flower cabinet of sheeted warehouse steel shelving units, 2 x 4 x 8.










The male was segregated in another cabinet which will return to the vegging and hydro unit after he pops his pollen. He immediately went into flower and I had to hustle to get him away from the girls, he's a good 2' tall and doesn't seem to mind the mixed spectrum floro ceiling.

A week after settling in - an uninvited guest - powdery mildew! :jawdrop:

Time to pull out the research notes, talk to a lot of mentors, finally deciding to try babbabud's (sorry, babba - it was the Mrs I believe!) recommendations for PM treatment indoors - baking soda. Many thanks Mrs. B! and much I got out the mister and mixed 1/4c baking soda and water, then tested for a PH over 8.0 that the mold can't handle. Misted twice a day for 3 days. No spreading was noticed, but it did come back and was combatted with more mist. More research revealed that the high PH created an environment the mold can't survive in - but the spores are hardy and they reinstall the mold. The answer to killing the spores, then, was hydrogen peroxide - which was mixed 1 part to 10 of water, and misted well (making sure undersides of the leaves were well coated) a few times. It worked!

However, I was unhappy with the white residue from the baking soda, and the peroxide treatment or combination of treatments stressed the girls and new growth appeared wrinkled and shrivelled. Nothing to do but wait and see if the damage was terminal. They finally recovered after a week or so and are starting to show normal growth.

Okay, now for pics - the Johnny Blaze should be around 56 days. I put it right into flower as soon as I got home, don't remember how old they are. They were about 7" tall.

Now, task in hand is to get the bubble cloner readied and fill and prep the hydro. So, the entire project consists of:
the Original flower closet with the 2 females and the NH at the halfway mark.
the new flower cabinet with the NH tri mom and sage and st#3
the new veg cabinet with hydro in the lower half
the remodelled bubble cloner cabinet with sprouting greenhouse on top

I'm thinking that I'll have to convert a shelf system for vegging the short strains and assign the new veg/hydro cabinet to hydro only if the plants that go in there take off like they did on the last run. For more info on the hydro refer back to the original flower closet thread.

Now off to get up the sage thread and st#3 thread, and update the Neville's at 90 days of flower in the original flower closet.

Also have two 1000 watters, plan is to switch out the current dual 400s with one, install the other one inthe new flower cabinet, and move all the old 400s into the veg and hydro units. Whew. Update at 11.

Looking good! Sorry to hear about the PM and glad to know your ladies survived.

First, the seed project is doing good, the tri-foliar Neville's mom is producing a nice bean crop for experimenting, in spite of her frequent treatments for recurring PM:


Happy to report the the Johnny Blaze clones appear to be the healthiest and fastest growing of the Mini-Cup gifts. Estimated at about 70 days, I imagine they lost a few weeks for stress, and another couple to give my F1 beans:












Still in the process of taking down and moving in two 1000 HPS, replacing the 400s in the flower closet and the three 150s in the new flower unit. I've donated one of the 400s to a local member and the other will go into the hydro section of the veg cabinet, then the small HPS (150s) will assist the floros in the top veg section of that shelf unit. More updates as I get the 20 amp breaker added to the box and a new 8 gauge line ran to the grow. Then a cool tube build will commence for the two new lights.

Many thanks to the members that have contributed so much to get us this far.

Almost forgot about the Johnny Blaze male! During a routine check on his sealed chamber I was greeted with webs and mites. Collected his precious pollen, chopped him and tossed his ass in the microwave to fry those bastards good, then cleaned the cabinet and sprayed with bleach. I collected about 3 grams of pollen and stored it away in a glass vial. I then rearranged the vegging shelf to get the future containers right up to the floro ceiling and make more headroom in the hydro chamber below. Got the cloner cabinet cleaned and ready for action, and have 10 Neville's x Johnny Blaze beans in the spouter greenhouse for the next run.

Now, the project is at a stage where I'm gonna have to seriously organize a catalog system. I thought I had a pretty good handle on fillial gens and shit - but, man - it gets confusing pretty damn quick, don't it?

IF my beans are as claimed - Green House Neville's Haze - should the strain be considered as true breeding? I've grown out about 100 and every one is predictable. If so, this would be P1.

Johnny Blaze = Neville's (?) X Blueberry (If this is the case, then a true breeding Neville's and an indica dominant Blueberry were crossed?) WTF do I call P2? Isn't Blueberry a backcrossed indica? How would I label the genetic tree - parents are a true breeding sativa and a backcrossed hybrid? What are the Blueberry's parents, true breeding indica?

To further fog the matter, now I have a Johnny Blaze first generation of beans. If Blaze is true breeding, and founders of a new strain, would both parents be P1? That would give me true F1 beans of the Johnny Blaze strain? I also have Sage X Johnny Blaze. New can of worms!

The Johnny Blaze would be an F1 (assuming the Neville's & Blueberry are both stable, which they are as far as I know). Next gen would be an F2. If the parents aren't stable, then JB is a polyhybrid.

Morning ambre! Thanks for the links --I'm keeping an eye on them!

I've collected pollen from the male that has been segregated and pollenated the girls. One month and I have beans. The male was binned and 3-4 gm of his pollen is stored.

The girls gave me nice looking beans - the "tiger stripes" are more like lightening bolts - exotic lookin seeds. And dark chocolate brown in contrast to the paler shell. I had them dry for week or so, and germinated paper-towel method - 10 soaked and 10 cracked and sprouted tails. I planted them in rockwool cubes and an equal total in coco plugs, just to see which one works best for me. I normally germinate right in soil-less mix.

I noted the journal for Dec 1, 2005 - the official begin date for a Johnny Blaze run from seed. 10 seeds sprouted and planted in plugs.

I'm also running side-by-side runs of Sage and Sweet Tooth#3 (also from seeds I made). The Sweet Tooth was the first to crack any, 3 to date - and the Sage cracked 1. The original thread contains those grows.
I've got the 20 amp line ran to the flower room, and just received the two 1000 watt HPS which I'm in the process of converting to remote ballast. I should have the big guns mounted in time for flowering.

Sorry to hear you are deleting it, a friend of mine has some JohnnyBlaze seeds that germed and are growing, they were gifted to a friend of theirs via Gypsy...

Did you ever mist your ladies when in vegg? I find foilar feeding in vegg a neccessity because it helps keep the leaves clean, and if you use a lil seaweed extract or fish emulsion then you can feed them a lil while cleaning them...

Hey Core, good to see ya bro - thanks, since thread for this strain is already here and I have occassional ladies joining the perpetual lineup I figured may as well post up any new pics as they happen. Been working with the NH and Blaze for year or two now, added about 16 more strains - so check the DIY Tinkerer's Lounge thread for updates on those. But the good old Blaze provides a choice pheno now and again.

If you're tracking this strain, the Oaxican thread has some good info on the Flo lineage and BB, and JLP's forum has a lot of info on breeding tips. Here's some art that users have contributed to those forums, and I include them for research. Mr. Alkaline should be credited for the Flo lineage, will check on the users that posted them up and credit appropriately. Many thanks to the fabulous work these breeders have posted for our benefit.
