What's new

the hardiest, most vigorous sativa?

I am looking for a guerrilla strain for, I picked ace seeds because their strains are good for my climate, I live in the tropics (21 N latitude)

Which strain is the best LOW MAINTENANCE strain ace has? preferably something with a vigorous root system that can tear through the rich tropical clay we have here.

Welcome RedDirtWarrior,

You are very lucky to have the chance to grow sativas in your latitude and here is also a good place to look for sativas ;)

Our highly worked sativa or sativa dominant hybrids will work great there producing medium sized plants of great yield/m2, strains like: Panama, Tikal, Congo, Orient Express have great vigour and have the potential to reach good size and yield being germinated in a tropical photoperiod.

But is also a great chance to experience a true tropical sativa, a tropical will grow bigger cos they need more time to reach maturity and they need longer flowering times: Green Haze Thai, Purple Haze Thai, Golden Tiger, Malawi, Guatemala ... guess there's nothing better than a tropical sativa for a tropical climate :)

They all have great vigour, mold and rain resistance, quality, personality .... and the potential to yield real well in your climate.

thanks for the reply!!!

I really wanted to try malawi due to its potency, I want to try a true tropical sativa! How big can I expect some of these "true tropicals" to get if planted during the beginning of june in these daylight hours?

I know a lot of this depends on nutrients, weather etc, but I was wondering if you could give me a good estimate.

Also, why do you say to not use much nitrogen on these plants? Does nitrogen stunt a sativas growth? Or does it keep it from flowering?

I have decided on golden tiger due to its vigorous vegetative growth, but dubi, in your opinion, how big could a sativa get at this latitude if planted at the end of june?

When does golden tiger start flowering? at 11 hours or 12?

Just an update the GT are doing well in my climate, one 10 gal hole filled with native soil amended with native tree compost, a small amount of perlite and coco, like >10%

2 females in the one 10gal hole (expected one to be male, turns out, out of 6 seeds germd i got 6 females!)

also given 20-20-20 nutes and happy frog bloom nutes they are healthy and vigorous growing, I expect them to finish at under 4 feet.

In my other plot there is one female to each 3.5-4 gallon hole, they are staying smaller due to unfinished soil mix/ph issues most likely. Will each yield under an oz each i estimate, they are small, will probably finish under 2 ft I will try GT again in these spots when the soil has aged!

overall I am very pleased with GT!

Gonna order some zamaldelica, panama, pck!

I want to try some PCK and adapt it to tropical climate with sativa hybrids, but i feel i may be asking too much. any ideas?

Hello RedDirtWarrior,

Sorry for the late reply, just looking at your photoperiod table (very useful indeed) April would be the best moment to start the plants (if you want to get biggest plants and higest yield) at your latitude, the moment to start the seeds also depends on the rainy season of your subtropical area and temps during the rest of the year. But at your latitude you can start sativas at any time of the year (try to avoid rainy season during flowering to achieve best quality). Enjoy! :)

update:

All 6 plants are females!amazing, 6 germed, 6 cracked, 6 females!

Started flowering beginning of sept, so looks like end of december harvest for me if I let them go 12 weeks.

I will have some green christmas nugs!

Rain is unpredictable, its pretty dry right now though, minus the huge amount of rainfall we got a week ago! Plants loved it!

I really want to try zamal delica, just in native volcanic soil.

The golden tigers did great in my climate, they got to about 4 feet each (other ones didnt do so well due to soil issues) and yielded an ounce dry each. Very low maintenance plants, took care of themselves! susceptible to PM though, when they finished they had no leaves left! But the buds did not rot at all!

Smoke was great, I prefer the sativa pheno smoke, the african pheno was too "heavy" dirty feeling.

The sativa pheno gave a great euphoric high, really reveals the truth to you, great contemplation weed.
