Getting ready to install some cfls in the garden to prevent flowering. I don't want to dot my hill with lights so Im trying to come up with a cost effective way to make some lamp shades or buy some that will direct the light down and prevent the side of the bulb showing which I feel is the visible part form a distance. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Sorry to double post but I came up with a good idea if anyone is interested. Cheap 2 gal nursery pots with a hole drilled through the middle of the bottom for the light bulb to connect with the socket. Works perfect but still open to ideas. Ill post pics if anyone wants

I also agree earth worm soil is overhyped. Dave will reel you in over the phone the best he can to sell as many $200 yards as he can. Luckily they only got me for 6 g.

Royal gold on the other hand has a better coco based blend,mendo mix, that's quite cheap at 100 a yard. Needs a good deal of perlite because it was designed for water retention.

Reamending my promix and earth worm factory with sulfate of potash, high n bat guano, precipitated bone meal, feather meal, dolomite lime, and neem seed meal.

Who has started depping? Began yankin tarp myself on the 1st. Hopefully I can fend off lingering root aphids and have a nice crop. Enjoy the nice weather fellow nor cal folks.

Home Depot has some LED floodlight/worklight lamps made by Husky that I use outdoors year-round (year-round growiing in the tropics). They're like a halogen worklight design, but LEDs instead. I'd post a link, but I can't from my phone. I can tomorrow night if you can't fine them and are interested. They come with a telescoping stand, but I just suspend them over my plants with ropes and they point all the light downward.

These LED's would work great, good idea lightweight.

However, if you have an extension cord with Edison connections these LED's might be better, and still wont shine to the side.

Cord = http://www.homedepot.com/p/Designers-Edge-100-ft-Temporary-String-Light-DISCONTINUED-E-400/100655360
This cord was discontinued, but you get the idea. This cord will also light up a much larger area with smaller outputs spaced out over a larger area. Also, these are rated for outdoor use, and being low voltage you shouldn't have any weather problems.
Bulb = http://www.homedepot.com/p/Polaroid...-Light-Bulb-PLPAR38W-120-2200-30-3D/204718924
this bulb equals an 120w incodecent bulb, and only uses 30 watts. So you could run 60 bulbs on one 20amp circuit.

I have some good leads, but I am shopping for a pimp greenhouse. Looking to spend no more than 20g, hoping for 30x50 in size. Thanks for any advice in advance.

Boobs- care to share specifically why ewsf wasn't good for you last year? I got a little jolt of anxiety after reading 'plants doing poorly... ewsf... financial ruin.." - I've bought many yards from them this year.... their stuff kind of reminds me of four seasons premium mix and I did very well with that three years ago. I put about half my blue dreams into the ground 4/20, under supplement lighting, 300 gl mounds and they seem to be really loving it...lots of very healthy growth...I have noticed that the soil perhaps doesn't hold water that well? I've been watering like crazy and they keep drying out even though I'm using about 2" of rice straw mulch. Thanks for your input, peace

I also have many yards o Ewsf soil and am very pleased, plants are super stoked and biggest best looking plants I have seen in all the gardens this year. I was thinking it has only ok water absorbtion rate. But seems it takes a lot o water till the soil is wet, but once wet it seems to have great water retention.. Am looking forward to 3 yard mounds of Ewsf . Looking like its gunna be a great year. Best of luck to all!

surprised to also hear some of the complaints, only thing I've found is that the EWSF wasn't ideal for my small veg starts, it takes a while for the organic N sources to activate so my starts needed a foliar and fertilizer boost to keep them green and vigorous. other than that we cut a little more perlite/lava rock into the mix but the starts are all loving the sun and growing everyday...and all the mounds have been amended and soaked so hopefully those N sources will be available right after the main planting.

I treat my mounds with a bunch of yucca extract and never have a problem with rehydrating

It's easy to blame an expensive purchase for your own short comings as a grower.

So at my new spot it seems like choppers will be more of an issue than I would like. That is why I am thinking a green house may be the answer. Does anybody in the Large Plant Thread grow in greenhouses, and what are some important things the greenhouse should have to make growing easier? Greenhouses better than strait outdoor? All advice would be great.

Blumats - Anyone figure out how to use them in large containers, 200 gal and up? Seems like one dripper would not suffice, or have I missed some technology along the way with the Blumat design.

Thanks
