The Future Of Tech And The War On Drugs

So i'm thinking - technology is moving on so quickly that it's now possible to detect the most minute traces of illegal substances on a suspect (the airport thing to detect explosives). So the technology is effectively in place for them to check for traces of drugs using a system which is very hard to beat.

So - When do you think they will start using such detectors to scan for users of illegal drugs at airports / schools / workplaces - which are impossible to get around?

How long have we got ppl? :rasta: Would they ever dare to do something like this??

They were doing some sort of swab detection system in Newark Highschools last year on lockers and such to detect any sort of narcotic. It can pick up the most minute traces. I'm not sure if it is the same thing as the swab drug test commonly used in probation but it's probably simular. The workplace is allready a pain in the ass due to tech. (the piss test) but it is nothing new. ANY good job usually drug tests in one way or another now.

As for how long? It's too late. They're probably twenty years ahead of what we know about in technology. The scary part is when will they start using it. There is allready some sort of tracking chip in all new U.S passports and other types of chips that could be implanted in humans. The patriot act has them using all sorts of technology against our civil liberities every day. I read something new every week or so about how the FBI can hear your cell convo's when shut off or how some dumb ass parents volunteered their baby to be implanted with the first ever computer chip of its kind. Shit is rediculous. Maybe im just parinoid and they do all of this because they love us?

The question really has to be, Will They Use The Technology to find drug users? It would be impossible to imprison all of us, but it's possible that it goes on our records and affects jobs and credit ratings.

It just scares me how far the governments are willing to go with their war on drugs. And they do get really turned on by military tech being utilized in this war.

Last time I checked a dirty swab wasnt enough evidence to convict anyone of anything. They still need better evidence than that to do anything to anyone specfic. Getting that evidence is going to trample a few rights to privacy. If your waiting for the days of random drug witch hunts I think you'll be waiting a long time. Insurance companies are always going to want drug testing because they simply just cant come out and say we dont want to pay out for drug rehab.

Yep, I'm predicting legalization will occur before the "war on drugs" escalates into something heavier

We all have to realize that Damn near every bit of money that we carry in our pockets has a trace amount of coke on it and every time we touch those bills,we get a trace amount on our hands. If their tests are very strict, they will have to arrest everyone, including themselves.

there are detectors that can detect cocaine in concentrations of 400 ppb or 1 micro molar

also, there is now technology that allows for the use of pico liter volumes.

the general name for the technology is "lab on a chip" and utilizes microfluidics

Hey bro... depends on the State.. In Fl.. for example.. if a "trained officer" detects the odor of MJ emanating from your person.. or from an area you have control of.. you can be arrested and convicted for possesion of MJ... with NO MJ EVER BEING FOUND.... SIMPLY ON THE TESTIMONY OF A TRAINED LEO.. IF THE JURY WILL CONVICT.. and they will
you want to take the chance??? much less the time and cost??

And I was a stoner during the day when "being stoned" wasn't a crime...ANYWHERE in this Country.. and we could lauuuuuugggghh and joke and make fun of the pigs, and they would be respectful.. as long as you were just "talking" and not "acting" violent, you could tell... PIG GO HOME N LEAVE MY POT ALONE.. ... as long as you weren't driving stuff like that...

Now they have crimes like "being in a drug state".. used from meth heads to pot heads to hop heads... just depends on if the pigs WANTS to arrest..

random swabbing will always constitute an illegal search and seizure

agreed.. but this also points out that search and seizure is becoming totally subjective. i think the technology is already in place to find whatever they need to find. it's just a matter of further eroding our rights to allow these people to violate us personally. sooner or later, it'll be ok for any cop to shove his hand up your ass just by the way you look.

that type of attitude and practice among police, especially the NYPD, is already evident and documented. they have "violation" posts set up from time to time at our local train stations. if you've got a bag, they search you.. if they want to.

i wouldn't worry about the technology. it'll be obsolete if the laws continue to give more violation power to an already defined gestapo-type paramilitary.

I would be more interested in a judge that would allow such crap to go to a full jury trial.

But if you can cite a florida law statute where it says you can be charged with marijuana possession void of any physical evidence I would be more than interested to read it.

WOW bro!! I did a search and CAN'T FIND WHAT I SAID ABOVE!!..

My bad... while I have that the smell allows police the right to search BOTH a car or even A HOME!! WITHOUT A WARRANT!!!!!! I have NOT found a case or the law that says you may be ARRESTED on SMELL ALONE.. UNLESS you were DRIVING when they smelled it... but you can see how they would say your were INTOXICATED...

My bad.. better info above (researched)

Peace
