THE FIRST TIME YOU TRIED SKUNK

This is probably the best strain iv come across so far in my smoking career. The first time I tried it was on ecstasy in the late 90s. Iv grown the Hazes, Blueberry, kush, and other top strains but i still think skunk#1 is my favourite.
Iv read allot about this strains history and was wondering what peoples first experience was with skunk ? when did you first come across it ? and what did you think of it ?

i can rememeber first trying it in the early nineties and to this day it was the most wasted i can ever remember being. my shoulders and neck felt kind of paralysed and warm. having never smoked any weed except compressed import it was a real eye opener for sure.

Me too.

I don't remember where I got it. Must have been from Mendocino. The only seeds I had ordered were NLxHaze from the Seed Bank.

The Skunk I had in the early 90's was Sat dom, nice sweet skunk smell, and plenty potent. I shared a little with friends and was still hearing about it 10-15 years later.

It was different from the Skunk #1 I got from Sensi in the 00's.

Anyway, it (the old 90's skunk, from Mendo seeds) was an up high, great for getting work done.

from 84 to 86 used to get skunk. and pine.
I don't romanticize it like some do, but it was great smoke. Never smelled anything like it. I guess it was the first of the modern amazing hybrids that we've come to expect. No one wanted mexi or colombian anymore. I'd take some colombo right now though.

1976 in Santa Cruz Calif, I thought it might be a winner as I and so many people loved the smell, taste, and potent effects. To be honest I preferred O Haze and the more cerebral smoke back then and did not really give Skunk #1 a fair chance at the time, I just liked O Haze so much better it was all I smoked. What really made me love Skunk #1 was that when you made F2 seeds and grew them out, they were all still basically Skunk #1 unlike most hybrids it did not segregate much into the parents phenos, it was almost true breeding, even though a hybrid.
Nowadays I like Skunk #1 for the resin, lots, and easy to dry sift. In fact I have a few 25 year old female Skunk #1 clones and a male clone in my window trying to get big right now, they are 4-5 foot tall, I put them under natural photoperiod on May 1. Two weeks to early for Amsterdam, they just started to sex a little, then returned to veg growth, so I made a few crotch seeds on one of the girls from the 4 male flowers that opened on the boy. The seeded calyxes already have a great smell. I will sift them when the plants are done and dry, still another 3+ months away till harvest.
I do remember the first time I smoked some cleaned up Skunk#1 resin around 1985, and I saw it melt and bubble, and it tasted like a honey oil, I was amazed and have loved it since.....

In 1980/81 (also near Santa Cruz) I went on a HS ski trip to Tahoe and a friend had scored some of the smelliest weed I had ever encountered. It was the first time I heard the smell of skunk associated with pot and thought that the plant must have been sprayed by a skunk. Of course it was not and the smell was skunk but not as rubbery as the smell from when my dog got sprayed full face. More like the smell of a skunk from 1/4 mile away.
The first night we got there 4 of us smoked a J.
I do remember the buds looked nice and fresh. Lime to dark green in color without many hairs showing and nothing was manicured like it is today which was good.
The rest of the night is a bit of a blur. I remember having really heavy eyes that must have been completely bloody. I also remember the 4 of us huddled around a video game (I think Defender) and the chaperone from school seeing us. In my head I was sure he knew what was up.
I vividly remember hallucinating on his face out of my peripheral vision with this really dorky, duck like look on his face. We were all cracking up uncontrollably and didn't really give a fuck anyway.

From reading other threads on the net about skunk i seem to be one of the few that prefers the newer sweeter version. Iv had RKS in the form of cheese but i really didnt care for it that much. The version i tried from seedsman had a touch more class to it.

It was right around the time I first heard someone say, " you can smell it through the bag baby!" :D

It's a shame what happen to skunk.

I'll take a pack or three of those seeds Sam ;)

I "tried" skunk last summer, in a different way.

I had bought a set of traps (big and little), and was slowly catching & releasing some rats who had gotten out of control around my house.

I had been thinking, "I should be careful about that big trap, I might catch something bigger than a rat".

One night I went out about midnight to turn off the hose, and I heard this sound, "Pssssssssssss".

Half a second later, I got about 10 lifetimes' supply of skunk smell.

Lucky for me, it was on the inside of my left knee. Still smelled though ! :dance013:

The next morning I went out to release it. I approached it with a big piece of clear plastic. It was firing away.

Turns out, the skunk scent looks a lot like the yellow ink used in pen plotters.

Left intense yellow splotches on my plastic sheet.

Boy was I lucky I didn't get sprayed somewhere other than my knee. Could have been SO MUCH WORSE.

1996... Man, what a year for growing weed for me... To this day, that was the single best year I've had... My best friends mom had just gave him a really nice two story pad... It had a really nice horse ring and barn on the land... It was absolutely beautiful, and fee... We had these two experimental plants n five gallon buckets outside, outback... Well his mom saw them when she came by to visit and flipped the fuck out and took them to the middle of the horse ring and dumped them out, and was gonna set'm on fire... Well he n her argued for a bit n she ended up leaving... So we took the two pot plants(didn't know strain names at the time) and planted them in between the ol pump house and a park'n spot for the big red ghost, an old log'n truck we used to haul logs and timbers(mining props)... He n I were dating/fuck'n these two gals from around the way that were sisters... We called them " fun girls"... Anyway, the only catch to the free pad was we had to hand dig, with a Maddox and #4 shovel where the old creek used to run, a septic hole/system /tank... Well, the fun girls daddy came over after we dug the 8x8 ft hole, I know, it was big'n lol, and poured a concrete lid for it... Well, while he was there he was like, shewww gd boys there's a dead skunk or something out there... And I swear, everytime it rain'd out, u could smell skunk funk from 500ft away... It smelled just exactly like road killed skunk... We ended up getting 34 zips from the two plants... 16 from 1 and 18 from the other...

early 2000s. There used to be a Purple Skunk in San Diego in rare form that was good RKS. The compressed Mexi Skunk in the 90s. When grown from seed form the leaves would be stacked on top of each other. That's when you could grow mexi seeds and get something extraordinary. AH those were the days. As far as seedless that was mid 90s in form of Northern Lights and G13. ALmost everything had a skunk smell in the 90s.

thinking early 80s, but it may have been late 70s to mid eighties . Big nice buds of gold and green that were so very different than what I had ever experienced. The nice Colombian was still very much available. Trying to recall the prices, think it was about 200 an ounce as opposed to the 35 or 40. Neat thread, neat site !
