A Comparative Analysis of Mythology and Eschatology

As a student of religions one may tackle this massive field in a multitude of different ways. One of these avenues is the study of religions through comparison, finding patterns and discovering an almost universal truth buried in the depths of ancient teachings, in which religious traditions have spawned. I find it so fascinating that completely independent civilizations sprang up in similar time periods, separated by thousands of miles and they share so many things in common, like prophecy and “end time” scenarios. These connections surpass mere coincidence and provide evidence for a cosmically significant event that has been encoded in religious teachings about the end of our civilization. It is quite evident that this cosmic turning point is the Galactic alignment, which signals the end of time, or transition into a new age. Through a comparative analysis of mythology and eschatological doctrine, we can unearth a long forgotten gnosis that at the end of time some type of cosmic event will come to pass, effecting humans in a metaphysical dimension, and ultimately causing an evolution of consciousness. The most striking thing is that this shift in consciousness that has been prophesied for thousands of years is coming to fruition now in our lifetime!

As far as we know Eschatology has its roots in ancient Hinduism. Although religious beliefs differ radically, Hindus believe in a series of world ages called “Yugas”. At the end of each Yuga a messianic avatar will arise, bringing enlightenment to those who understand their message. Often referred to as the Dark Age, Kali-Yuga will be the last age in the cycle and represents humankind’s total disconnect from the divine. According to Vedic literature, the end of Kali-Yuga will be marked by the return of Kalki, who will ride in on a white horse and massacre all with his sword, ridding the Earth of all evildoers and giving rise to the new golden age, Satya-Yuga. These apocalyptic concepts would not stay within the confines of Hinduism, but they would filter into other religious traditions that would later develop and evolve in that region

Zoroastrianism, a dualistic religion revealed to the prophet Zarathustra by Ahura Mazda, the Lord of Life and Wisdom, pre-dates the concept of Eschatological doctrine that would later be borrowed by Judaism and Christianity. Contrary to common belief, the concept of an “illuminator” or “messiah” stems from early Hinduism, not the latter. According to early Zoroastrian scriptures , Ahura Mazda will conquer Ahriman, the Lord of Chaos and Destruction, at the end of the cycle. During this time a cosmic war would be fought in heaven, where the forces of good and evil would battle but good would reign triumphant over the evil spirit Ahriman.

These ideas later developed in Judaism, in which they were secretly encoded with a cosmic message to the last civilizations. Before the Babylonian Exile in 587 BCE, many Jews had a concept of a political “liberator” who would free them from oppression. In the books of Isaiah and Jeremiah there are many references to a messiah who would liberate the oppressed. Many Jews thought him to be Cyrus of Persia; Cyrus is seen as God’s “precipitating agent” by conquering Babylon and setting his “chosen people” free. However, after the Exile this idea evolved and took on a cosmic significance.

A recurring theme in the message of Isaiah is the faithful will be blessed and the faithless will be punished, and a new creation will ensue at the “end of time.” Many thought this was imminent in their lifetime.

“On that day the LORD will punish the host in heaven, in heaven, and the kings of the earth, on the earth. They will be gathered together as prisoners in a pit… And after many days they will be punished. Then the moon will be confounded, and the sun ashamed.” (Isaiah 24: 21-23)

In this excerpt from Isaiah we can see a judgment scenario and the cosmic significance on this last day when “the moon will be confounded and the sun ashamed.” Perhaps there is some esoteric meaning contained in this passage—most likely an astrological or astronomical event surrounding the coming of the messiah.

Hopes of a cosmically oriented messiah were soon lost when Jesus of Nazareth didn’t seem to fulfill the prophecies of the coming Jewish Messiah; therefore Jews rejected him. Despite this fact, many Jews still believed that Jesus was the messiah and that the prophecies would be fulfilled upon his second coming. Eschatological doctrine rooted in Judaism would eventually fizzle out, but would not be lost entirely.

Christianity picked up where Judaism left off and apocalyptic literature began running rampant after the crucifixion of Jesus. Many early followers of Jesus were Jews; therefore, as a result the Christian religion is deeply rooted in Judaism. According to Christian scriptures, at the end of time there will be a mass resurrection of the dead. It is to be understood that this idea is merely an extension of the Jewish belief in the resurrection of the body (Isaiah 26:19), or a rebirth, as the Pharisees believed. However the idea of a resurrection in the flesh was controversial and caused a rift between different sects of Judaism, such as the Pharisees and Sadducees. Gnostics were appalled at the idea of a fleshly resurrection. This mass rising of the dead will herald the second coming of the messiah, in which all will be judged according to their deeds. This prophecy is similar to early Zoroastrian accounts, in which one will face judgment upon death, either being rewarded or punished. Egyptians believed the heart was weighed. Since the soul was resurrected after death, by mummifying the dead, the idea was to preserve the physical vessel.

As above, so below -- Michael and his angels are fighting the dragon in heaven while chaos grips the Earth, culminating with the war to end all wars, which will be fought on Mount Megiddo (Armageddon). This is a precursor to the coming of the Christian messiah, which interestingly parallels and borrows from Zoroastrian eschatological doctrine, amongst others.

Islamic “end time” prophecies are almost identical to Judeo-Christian prophecies about the end of the world. Recurring themes include earthquakes, followed by wonders and signs in the heavens. Islam also shares the Day of Resurrection: “Round each man’s neck We have hung his ledger of deeds, and on the Day of Resurrection will present it as a book spread out.” Here we have the judgment, punishment, and rewards. It seems that the Hour of Judgment is anchored around some type of astronomical event, which would ultimately affect the whole world.

Many academics will argue that Jesus was not apocalyptic, but I beg to differ. In the book of Matthew, Jesus begins teaching a parable about the kingdom of heaven in which he relates it to a field of wheat. During the night an enemy comes and sows weeds among the wheat. When the wheat begins to grow it becomes entangled with weeds. The workers of the field ask if they should separate the weeds from the wheat, but the householder says to leave them alone because in the process the wheat might be torn out too. Then the householder says let them both grow together, and at the harvest they will be separated; the weeds will be burned and the wheat will be gathered into the barn. This parable seems to confuse the disciples so they come to Jesus and ask him to explain it to them. He says:

“He who sows the good seed is the Son of man; the field is the world, and the good seed means the sons of the kingdom; the weeds are the sons of the evil one, and the enemy who sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the close of the age, and the reapers are angels. Just as the weeds will be gathered and burned with fire, so will it be at the close of the age. The son of man will send his angels, and they will gather out of his kingdom all causes of sin and evildoers, and throw them into the furnace of fire.” (Matthew 13:36)

Here in this passage from Matthew we have a reference to “Precession.” [of the Equinoxes]. Jesus very specifically tells his disciples when this judgment will occur: at the close of the “age,” meaning the Age of Pisces and the transition into the Age of Aquarius. This transition is to occur in era 2012 as it is encoded in the Mayan Calendar, when the Sun conjuncts the Sacred Tree. It is evident that Jesus was aware of these great cycles of time and the metaphysical impact they have on our DNA and consciousness. Perhaps in his travels he encountered the great library of Alexandria, obtaining a wealth of esoteric knowledge and later imparting it to his disciples. It is also very possible that the author of Mark knew about this “great cycle.”

According to Mayan astrology, the precessional cycle is approximately 26,000 years, a very close approximation to the Hindu concept of Yugas, or world ages, which, consists of approximately a 24,000-year cycle around Vishnu’s naval—The Galactic Center of the Milky Way galaxy, or the center of Brahman; the source for all creativity. Vedic and Mayan literature are both loaded with esoteric, astrological symbolism. “The story of the Asvin twins is symbolically identical to the Hero Twins in the Popol Vuh” as John Major Jenkins points out in his book Galactic Alignment.
In her book Maya Cosmos, Linda Schele prescribes astronomical meaning to a Mayan sarcophagus carving. There is indeed a connection between Vishnunabhi, the naval of Vishnu, and the naval of Pacal, which is symbolically represented by the Sacred Tree. Schele discovered that the Sacred Tree is the crossing point of the Ecliptic with the Dark Rift of the Milky Way, the road to Xibalba.

“We may also remember at this point that the Tzolkin calendar is said to spring from the Sacred Tree. The Sacred Tree is, in fact, at the center of the entire corpus of Mayan Creation Myths. We should definitely explore the nature of this astronomical feature.”

A connection can also be drawn between the Sacred Tree of the Mayan tradition and the Judeo-Christian creation myth of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. “Above all, what is becoming apparent from the corpus of Mayan Creation Myths is that creation seems to have taken place at a celestial crossroads - the crossing point of ecliptic and Milky Way.”(Jenkins, Why 2012?) Jenkins suggests that ancient peoples from Mesopotamia also recognized the significance of the Galactic alignment, and it can be deduced that this astronomical alignment had a role in humankind’s fall from grace. This could be very likely, since it seems to be a fitting explanation.

Counting half a precessional cycle backwards from the end of the Long Count , one can calculate the rise and fall of civilization, in relation to these astronomical alignments. If you subtract 12,800 years from the end of the Mayan Long Count, which ends in era 2012, you end up in the so-called “Golden Age” of humanity in approx. 10-11,000 BCE. Plato told of a legendary advanced civilization called Atlantis, which flourished during this time period and proof of its existence is encoded in the Sphinx at Giza. This advanced civilization was said to have sunk below the waves and all knowledge was lost due to some type of cataclysm related to the Galactic alignment. This cataclysm was most likely the Great Flood and inundation of Atlantis that is accounted for in Genesis, in which Noah and his sons carry the seed into the new world. Many speculate there were once continents that spanned the Pacific gap, but due to the catastrophic reversing of the Earth’s magnetic poles continents have been torn apart and re-arranged a number of times.

“When plate tectonics -- the reigning paradigm in the earth sciences -- was first elaborated in the 1960s, less than 0.0001% of the deep ocean had been explored and less than 20% of the land area had been mapped in meaningful detail. Even by the mid-1990s, only about 3 to 5% of the deep ocean basins had been explored in any kind of detail, and not much more than 25 to 30% of the land area could be said to be truly known. Scientific understanding of the earth's surface features is clearly still in its infancy, to say nothing of the earth's interior.”

This Galactic alignment marked the end of the Golden Age and humankind’s descent into materiality and darkness. One quarter of a precessional cycle later, approx. 6,400 years, points to the rise of Sumer and the dynasties in Egypt circa 4,000 BCE. This was approximately at the time the oceans reached their current levels. What does this have to do with Eschatology? Well the fact that time is cyclical and that civilizations rise and fall with the Solstice and Equinox alignments of the Milky Way galaxy gives humanity a template and time frame for the creation and destruction of civilization, as we know it.
Interestingly, this precessional cycle forms a cross, a very ancient symbol that predates Christianity. The cross formation is symbolized by the movement of the Sun along the Solstice and Equinox axis. In retrospect, there had to have been some esoteric significance in that Jesus was crucified on a cross. Perhaps Jesus was prophesying that the ‘end of time’ would be in conjunction with this Galactic alignment, the cross!

Segueing into Mayan Eschatology, the concept of Christ is synonymous with Quetzalcoatl, the Mayan “plumed serpent”. According to Mayan prophecy, Quetzalcoatl is to return at the “end of time” and will purify the Earth, ridding the earth of evil and darkness, balancing the two opposing energies of light and dark.

This prophecy is extremely similar to other Meso-American civilizations, such as the Hopi who used a swastika to indicate cycles of time or the Native American shield, composed of a cross within a circle. Here again we have the cross, which predates Christianity and symbolically it is enclosed within the circle to represent the wheel of time. Four quadrants are then created, to symbolize the four worlds, and the intersection of the cross represents the Galactic Alignment. During this alignment the Sun will travel through the Dark Rift at the center of the Milky Way, resulting in heavy metaphysical repercussions, such as opening the gate to Xibalba, or the road to the underworld known by the Quiché Mayan people.

Like the Mayans, Hopi religious beliefs consist of multiple worlds, or suns. A great flood destroyed the last world, or civilization(s). The current world, the fourth sun, is dominated by darkness. Near the time of the ‘Great Purification’ ceremonies will cease, and people will lose touch with the divine creation. The Hopi word for this is Koyaanisqatsi, or “Life out of balance.” This purification will ensue with the return of a messianic figure, Pahana. The return of Pahana is synonymous with the return of Christ and Quetzalcoatl.

Parallels of this Great Flood can be found in Biblical, Babylonian, and Sumerian sources. Clay tablets found near Nineveh in 1853 depict a flood story much older than the borrowed version found in Genesis, or the Babylonian tale of Gilgamesh and the hero Utnapishtim, which is nearly identical to the Genesis version of Noah and the Great Flood. The Popul Vuh also depicts a world destroyed by a great flood. There must be some shred of truth in the story because there are too many connections to ignore.

Mayan eschatology also parallels the dualistic nature of Zoroastrianism and is similar to Christianity with the ‘resurrection of the dead.’ To bring life back into the bodies Quetzalcoatl will spill blood over them. The time period preceding the resurrection is called the Apocalypse, which literally means “in between worlds.” Tezcatlipoca, the Lord of Darkness, will unleash fury upon the world and will attempt to plunge the world into total darkness and materiality, similar to the idea of the Anti-Christ who will oppose Christ. Just as Quetzalcoatl will bring an end to the Fifth Sun and the old world will pass away, Christ will usher in the kingdom of heaven, or the Golden Age, and a new world will be born, humanity and the Earth will be purified.

“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw a holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.” (Revelation 21: 1-2)

This excerpt from Revelation is a vision of the new world, which is to be without sickness, disease, poverty, famine, drought, destruction, and evil. There seems to be a common thread in eschatology: destruction and darkness grip the world, but eventually a cosmic event brings about a turning point and darkness is thrown down and light prevails, culminating in rebirth and purification.

If this Shift of the Ages was imminent then there should be a credible body of science to back up this claim. I will suggest that Science is on the verge of a paradigm shift, as many up to date breakthroughs about consciousness and the fundamental nature of the universe itself are coming to light.
Darwin’s theories of Evolution are proving to be flawed. Based on the earlier findings of Raup and Sepkoski, Dr. Robert Rohde, a scientist from UC Berkeley, has discovered a 62 million year evolution cycle in the fossil record. The last major species emerged approx. 65 million years ago, so according to Rohde we are overdue for some type of punctuated equilibrium/evolution event very soon. The Mayan Long Count marks this evolution of consciousness when the Winter Solstice Sun is in alignment with the Galactic Center, which culminates in 2012.

During this “Great Shift” the Hopis warn of two water serpents with warriors sitting on their heads located at each magnetic pole. Nature will give many warning signs to the people before this point of no return, however if we do not take heed of this warning and change our destructive ways then the warriors will unleash the water serpents and the world would be turned upside down; all will perish. This Hopi prophecy depicts a magnetic pole reversal in conjunction with the entrance into the new world.

Geologic evidence corroborates the reversal of the magnetic poles occurring simultaneously as a precessional shift, which is caused by the Galactic alignment. During a pole reversal, the magnetic field experiences a latent period and is rendered useless against space debris and solar radiation. Coincidentally during this shift the DNA molecule interacts with the unshielded influx of highly energized particles, which in turn are intelligent and manifest a spontaneous evolution. In laboratories, plants and other organisms spontaneously evolve when they are bombarded with certain types of light (radiation). This in and of itself shows the significance and connection of the Galactic alignment, precession, and the pole reversal. It seems there is overwhelming proof that the universe is intelligent and acts like a cosmic clock in which all events are necessary, the climax being evolution.

This growing body of scientific evidence is showing scientists just how evolution actually works. The DNA molecule acts as an antenna to the photon, a tiny packet of light energy, which is a waveform. This light energy is intelligent and interfaces with matter, where in normal conditions DNA-like helixes form spontaneously in space or jellyfish form a spiraling pattern on the surface of the ocean. In an evolution sense, new codes are downloaded into the DNA itself by this invisible field, which the Russians call Torsion Waves and are said to be even more fundamental then electromagnetic energy. Other studies assert that every human being is interconnected in a massive field of consciousness. On a more intuitive level we are all one and are only separated by the ego. Ironically, it seems we are our own worst enemy and our own savior.

To sum it up, as we near the Galactic alignment, the documented increase in intelligent energy that is flowing into the Earth is causing a heating effect, including increases in volcanic and earthquake activity. The same goes for our whole solar system. Planets like Mars, Venus, Jupiter, etc, are undergoing massive changes in their atmospheric composition and “global warming” events very similar to the Earth. Increased solar activity and a weakening magnetic field are telltale signs that our solar system is at the end of a very important evolutionary cycle. Not only has this event been prophesied about for thousands of years, but also we are in the midst of this evolution right now and on the verge of a quantum leap of the photon. Ultimately, this vibrational shift of the photon would result in the complete restructuring of physics and the spontaneous evolution of species.

A negative realm of thinking can also manipulate eschatology. One thing is for certain; the society we live in today is driven by materialism—money, fame, and power. People are greedy, and many seek to capitalize on fear. In this day and age, books about the “End Days” plague the bookshelves at bookstores. As far back as one can remember people have been claiming that the “end is near!” It is natural for people to gravitate towards gloom and doom, negativity, destruction, and fear. However, people are missing the point. Instead of dwelling on things out of their control, one must revel in the new and embrace evolution. Using the Mayan Calendar as an example: instead of focusing on the end, one must focus on the new beginning-- 13.0.0.0.0, or 0.0.0.0.0; the cycle resets. Everything that has a beginning has an end: therefore there is some truth to apocalyptic literature. We must face the music; living on a rock in space isn’t the most hospitable place. Life is fragile.

Notes:

Zoroastrian Holy Scriptures include the Gathas. and have connections with the Rig Veda. The Aryan migrations could explain for the extreme similarities between Zoroastrianism and Hinduism.

Isaiah 44:28; Yahweh says of Cyrus: ‘He is my shephard and he shall fulfill my purpose.” [By liberating the Jews from Babylonian rule.]
“As above so below.” Ancient peoples tended to believe that whatever happened in the heavens was reflected on the Earth.

Al Qurán, The Children of Israel,17:13. The Day of Judgement and astronomical significance, references to the Resurrection.

Jesus travels to Egypt: There is circumstantial evidence-- Matthew 2:13-23 says Joseph had a dream: “Rise, take the child and his mother and flee to Egypt, and remain there till I tell you; for Herod is about to search for the child, to destroy him.” [Remaining there until adulthood.]

“The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed upon the ground… But when the grain is ripe, at once he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come.” [The “harvest” is symbolically the end of the Age.] Mark 4: 26-29

The Sacred Tree: Why 2012? Jenkins, John Major-- The mayan calendar, the galactic alignment, and galactic symbolism.

Long Count-- Mayan Calendar. The true “end date” is debated amongst scholars. Depending on the method, it is either October 28, 2011, or December 21st, 2012. However, many also speculate it could be plus or minus 18 years, the time it takes the sun to move 1º. This 18-year period also corresponds with the Apocalypse, or “in between worlds.” 25,920 years = Long Count

12,800 years: Approx. half of a Precessional cycle (according to Vedic astrology).

The Sphinx is in alignment with the constellation Leo as it would have appeared on the horizon in approximately 11,000 BCE, the same time period of Atlantis.

Journal of Scientific Exploration, vol. 14, no. 3, pp. 307-352, 2000) Plate Tectonics

The swastika is evident throughout many parts of the world, not just the Hopi. Based on observation, the cyclical nature of time is my interpretation of the swastika, and others include the Hopi migrations and the four cardinal directions, the rotation of the Sun, a star, etc. This cross-like symbol dates back at least 6,000 years.

Geologists can tell the magnetic poles have reversed many times before from the magnetic orientation of the rocks themselves. This pole reversal would have a catastrophic effect on any living organism since the magnetic field would be rendered useless for a period of time. Our DNA would respond to this catalyst.

The process usually begins with Cobalt-60, a highly radioactive material used in industrial radiography and medical radiotherapy. Its gamma rays, more energetic than X-rays, can travel many meters through the air and even penetrate lead!

NASA: SOHO satellite. Countries all over the world are studying the Sun right now, as solar activity is at its highest in 11,000 years. NASA has documented proof of interplanetary climate change and its models are showing to be extremely flawed.

The vibration of the photon will increase in frequency (from yellow ray to green ray) by December 21st, 2012, merging the physical world with the astral world. In turn this would permit “ascended” abilities or ascended states of consciousness

There is always going to be a beginning and an end to most all things within the universe........perhaps even the universe itself ....although we will never know that......

The universal truths of ancient teachings mystify me. Theres nothing wrong with pork meat. I don't see what their problem was or why religious folks think they were so smart back then.

I always believed the banishment of pork in ancient times to have been a health issue, later becoming incorporated in religion.Poor cooking practices and the tendency for pork to acquire worms transferable to humans made it a dangerous choice.

"One of these avenues is the study of religions through comparison, finding patterns and discovering an almost universal truth buried in the depths of ancient teachings"

The only universal truth to religion is that mankind has believed in a lot of stupid shit in the past, and today stupid people keep religion alive. Lesson over. Class dismissed.

True, but you still have missed the point of the essay.

PS. I am NOT glorifying "religion" here, I am coming at it from an academic point of view and showing that there is some truth in religion.

I felt it would maybe offer some incite to some people, since the Galactic alignment I show is responsible for these "end of the world" events, which ends up transforming the world in some way. The Mayan calendar predicts this "evolution" of cosciousness, and thought I would bring it to your guys attention...

i think religion is insane, especially religions of worship. why should i look to a religion that was created by men, which mandates the worship of an imaginary magical being in return for salvation from a terrible afterlife...for truth about the end of the world? i do feel alot closer to native american spirituality and perhaps even buddhism...but to think that these people somehow had some superior knowledge of the future than we is, well, ridiculous.

also, there is no such thing as an end of something; rather, it transforms into something else.

As the American has stated, the ban on eating certain animals was for the good of the Jews and other people. Both pork and wild game ,such as bears, carry the roundworm Trichinella Spiralis, which causes Trichinosis. Meat of these animals contains larval cysts, which are ingested and the acid in the stomach dissolves the coating and allows to larvae to live and breed in skeletal muscles. To prevent trichinosis, pork must be cooked to 170 degrees or frozen to 5 degrees F for 20 days. Freezing does not work for bear meat, as the larvae within it are more hardy.

Animals ,such as rabbits, voles and muskrat, are hosts of the bacterium Francisella tularensis, which causes tularemia(rabbit fever), named after Tulare County, California. This bacteria is spread by ticks and deer flies, but can be water borne. Although it is originally God's bioweapon, it has been investigated by the U.S. as a bioweapon, and was actually used by the Russians during WW2.

There is archaeological evidence,in the Middle East, for a great flood. It left about 6' of silt in the Tigris and Euphrates River Valley, several hundred miles upstream. It was not a world wide flood, but a flood that covered most of the known world at that time. However, even Indians in S. America have legends about it.

Hope you got a good grade on your homework, Beez.

I stick with Buddhism. We don't try to tell other's we're right. We don't try to force the belief on the world. We look inside for the answer, not outside.

All religions are paths to the same end. However, the problem is some of those paths have become horribly broken by man. Now instead of a distinct path(s), you end up with lots of dirty roads with people trying to sell you things along the way.

Why waste your time? Why feel guilty for being alive? Why feel guilty for not doing everything your religion dictates down to the letter? Religious doctrines are made by man to control man. Men who follow enjoy being the sheep.
