Either that is a site run by philisophy grad students practicing their ability to deny the obvious, or just another internet site where ignorant people gather to expand there ability spread ignorance.

Although I was pleased to see a thread about debunking evolution appear on a forum for people who think the earth is flat--right where it belongs.

Threads full of the same exchange over and over:

Rational Human: "...experement X proves the earth is round, because..."

Flat Earth Believer: "no it doesn't."

RH: "well what proof do you have that the earth is flat?"

FEB: "the burden of proof is on you!"

Something everyone should know: IF YOU ARE ARGUING ON THE SIDE OF THE "CRAZY" IDEA, YOU HAVE THE BURDEN OF PROOF.

That's the type of sight I should put a net nanny blocker on just to keep my need-for-things-to-make-sense from eating me alive.

But it is damn tempting to sign up, maybe it'll distract me from the political argument that won't get out of my head since the primaries.

After looking more, It seems to be a pretty interesting site in that it provides a very structured forum for pure debate. It actually seems as though people are enjoying the argument rather than harboring hate for those who do not conform to their own Ideas.

My guess is most of these people are just trolling. Some might have a hard-on for conspiracy theories, and some might just have really bad logic. But I think most of them are just out for the lulz.

The Flat Earth Society has been going for ages, it's certainly not a joke for some of the members although I suspect some are not serious. Brits especially tend to have a love of that type of piss taking.

Having a round earth goes against some fundamentalist religious views so therefore it must be flat. Hence the logic proving it flat.

Oh my God! I cannot balieve that there is actually a group of people who try to persuade as many people into ignorance as possible. As a land surveyor I can assure you that those nitwits are grasping at straws. The curvature of the earth has been well documented. When you stand on the beach at elevation 6 ASL. The horizon (where the sky meets the water) is right around 29 miles out. If the earth was flat, we would be able to see alot further. the curvature of the earth can be seen from a boat when looking at the land from 15 miles out. It is easy to see the tops of tall buildings but not the land itself.

Ask gunner on a battleship if the earth is round and they will laugh at you. At thirty thousand yards, the hull of other enemy ships isnt visible, only the superstructure is visible with the rest of the hull is hidden under the horizon due to the curvature of the earth.

Have the junk science guys explain that one.

i read there a faq and there answer to everything is "the government doctored the photo's...", "the government prevents us from going to the massive ice wall its highly patrolled...", "the government wont let us get a photo of a flat earth..."

Sounds like a few professors who simply love debating. What better subject to debate than one many people understand to be true? If you can take something many people to believe true, and convince them otherwise...that could be great fun for some lonely bookworm professors... and anyone that has spent time in the education system can relinquish how neurotic some of these teachers can be...

i know all about this, it goes around to the hollow earth theory. to the story about the ancient empire of Mu, and atlantis and the city of Meru on the north pole and all that. about the pyramids and disasters on earth and it ties in with religion and historical events. thats why its very touchy especially for me since its very much tied in with my culture. if you guys need some search words or clues or have questions or whatever just shoot.

technically .. IF the earth is hollow, gravity is such a weak force that there is no reason why we couldnt make it flat again.

i wrote something about columbus and how they are said to have thought the earth was flat. but too touchy so ill let that one fly.
