The Drum & Bass Appreciation Thread

Hello all, another music thread!

I understand this could be part of the electronic music thread but you know... i'm just feeling too passionate about DnB for that.

Any other smokers enjoy this particularly far reaching niche of music? I'm into all sorts, old school jungle through to darkside with lots in between. I've got Calyx playing right now and well, my neighbours must hate me.

No other music forces me to get up and dance and enjoy it than DnB, the local scenes (here in the UK at least) are awesome, still plenty of good DnB for the failthful few. Lots of smokers too, one of my favourite drum and bass nights in a nearby city uses a club with an excellent fenced off garden - a wonderfully skunky cloud of smoke hangs over it, from which wide eyed smiley junglists emerge not to mention the wide availability of acid, pills and whatnot at these events if thats your bag.

For anyone else in on this Saturday night, for whatever reason, theres no need to miss out! get junglist in your living room

So if you're into it, post your recommendations, sets and whatnot because theres always something awesome you've not heard yet.

I was under the impression you need to swallow some sort of pills to actually enjoy this kind of music.

When I rolled more, I was all about some D&B: Roni Size, Hive, Adam F, etc...

Since I've quit, I find myself listening to alot more Downtempo/Trip Hop...

are you serious?

If so, this is the sorriest post ever, and shows why more people don't embrace all forms of music, because they think they have to be ****ed up to do so. If not, then forgive me. I am a lover of all music, and a huge fan of DNB.

Some of my favorite labels:
Saigon
Creative Source
31 Records
Ram

Feyd: LTJ Bukem is the $h!t!!! I can't get enough of those Earth Comp. series or soul series. Zen Connection is total bliss goodness.

Nephlim Modulation Systems is some dope dark hip hop/drum and bass mix that isn't cheesy. Orko's best stuff. Mikah 9 has some good D&B and House (never thought I'd ever like house.. but there's talented everything).

R03: If you ever played drums, you'd love d&b... fast shit that requires much stamina!
An electronic roland drumset has me plugged in like the matrix is so fun.

I listened to it in the 90's, mainly I heard it at raves one summer. My friends and I decided to check out the scene. Bad memories actually, people doing their pill popping madness, passing out, getting horribly sick, and generally looking like possessed demons. What a nightmare.

Yeah I really didn't mean to disrespect you guys and your choice in music. I can be a very sarcastic guy also, which never translates well on the internet. Well sometimes it doesn't translate at all in public either, my sense of humor can be dry.

I think it was more bad memories associated, and I really never thought about why I didn't listen to it till now really. I never popped any pills to enjoy the music at the time, maybe the odd spliff.

"what da time u av de dread"
bang bang bang bang bang(rolll and into flying base)
whoah i gotta go rooting though my old cassette box lol
I like the oldschool "rave too, things like "Ratpack"
I was standing on the corner, searchin 4 my rizla.....
Jeez thins brings back some memories...I was too young for this on the party scene, and my thing wa acid/psychadelic trace/tech but i do like some oldschool choons..
DJ's like Ellis Dee, stuff like the oprigional fantasia stuff(before they went to shit commercial house music like danny dumpling and n judge jules-wankers)
wish i still had my 1210's...oh and some vinyl would help lol

Exactly, I was into it then. Even before the raves, the old stuff was gold and brings lots of good memories with it. Somewhere along the line it didn't sound as good to me.

I'm pretty diverse in my musical tastes, I guess it all depends on mood.
I use to be pure jungle/techno and that kind of stuff. I can listen to opera, classical, some hip/hop, rock, french rap, shit i'll even listen to that chinese flute music, lol.

I have shoe boxes upon shoe boxes of tapes, real good stuff. My friend was very much into the scene and made tons and tons of tapes. The days of Dr.Trance late at night when I just got into highschool.
