The Commercial Smoke Report - Volume I

Hello fellow ICMag'ers! As much as we all love to grow and smoke our own, there will always be times where we have to purchase our beloved reefer.

I've been smoking my Mountain Jam for two months now, toking out at least 8-10 times a day. Needless to say, that's a bit much. I had to take a break and get some new smoke, as I was rapidly developing a tolerance to the point where i'd smoke a fat bong-load and basically just want to take a nap.

So I ventured into the world of commercial grass here in Indianapolis...I consider myself fairly well-connected - or at least used to before i started growing my own - so I figured it wouldn't be hard to find a bag up for purchase.

The first bag of commercial smoke I could get my hands on was paraded as Lemon Diesel; "man, this stuff's incredible, a cross of ECSD and NYCD!" It cost a ridiculous $60 an eighth...so it goes without saying that even after splitting this bag with a friend I was pissed.

These buds do have bag-appeal, at least to the amateur cannabis connoisseur. The color is an intense pine-green with starkly contrasting red hairs and a good number of whiteness that looks like trichs to the untrained eye. With a 60x loupe it becomes obvious that these buds have either been kiefed, or were picked way too early.

The smell of this pot is interesting, if a little artificial. My half eighth looked pretty fat in the bag, but unfortunately the calyx-to-leaf ratio was horrible and the buds were so airy and fluffy they fell apart as I tried to put them into the grinder. I pick up hints of chemicals (diesel fuel, primarily), acrid lemon pinesol, astringency, and a weird unflushed grassiness. Dirty-diaper funk is there too.

Flavor? This is where you really start missing homegrown organic nugs. The taste is peppery, coarse, stale, and black-smoke harsh. Dirty sock smell fills the room while you smoke this stuff. Unclean bowl flavor makes up most of the taste here. Ugh. Fortunately there is no off-putting chemical or hydro flavors, but there is clearly no earthy dankness here redolent of organic herbs.

Wow, after a few solar bongs of this stuff I have serious doubts of its labeling. While this is obviously early-picked and nowhere near ripeness, there is none of the endlessly deep confusion of the NYCD, nor any of the euphoric giggliness of the ECSD.

The high here is clean, if generic and underwhelming. This is a 'passenger' high - its there with you, but it doesn't really make itself too well known. After rocking more than a few bongs I do get a feeling similar to much of Soma's genetics: deep, but also heady and weightless. I'm ready to do absolutely nothing after 20 minutes; by 45 minutes the high is completely gone and i'm looking for my Mountain Jam jar.

This is no connoisseur weed for sure, especially for the asinine price of $60 an eighth. I'm glad that most people who smoke this are impressed by it and like it, but I feel bad for them. They have no idea what real homegrown weed tastes like, let alone its amazing and potent effects.

thats a pure bummer, looks like it could have been some real tasty smoke. I doubt the ecsd x nycd, its possible sure, but it doesn't look that way....I always thought both strains were certain pheno crosses of chemdawg.......I think its comical how anything not ugly is diesel.....just like if its not seeded its hydro.....anyways good smoke report mr bush. Tip top report Mr Bush, I got your meaning plain as day. We all grow better and take better care of it too. Just reminded yourself why you started growing huh? I too am off to read the others.

Good report "W". I am in your area I am think I might be smokin this same weed. It looks a lot alike and it has a very different smell to it. Not really weed like at all. Taste is not good compared to my organic goodies, but I am very thin on those and have to supplement in any way possible. Unfortunetaly that means commercial, and people pushing 3gram bags for $50-$60 of this stuff all the time. I have never seen anyone try to market it as ECSD or NYCD, but I wouldn't be surprised

One can always find the goods in Naptown, but the quality is another thing. I think people here know good smoke, but no one knows where to get it.

When my next batch is done (WR, NL, Hashberry, Papaya, Satori) is done, believe me, I won't be smoking this crap again. Not that this is bad weed, I have seen worse for the same price, but you just get spoiled once you have smoked your own for a while.

pretty stoney high, MAD munchies too. gives you red/glazy eyes, and pizza is the greatest thing on the planet after you smoke some.

Im sorry man. I had some NYCD, best sativa I have ever smoked. Loved it actually.
