I didn't post this earlier, as I was working off-grid in Mendocino county at the time. But I think you folks should hear this one. Luckily, I'd cleared out ALL of my grow gear before heading west.
Anyway, the wife was taking a nap one afternoon this summer and awoke to a house filling with smoke wafting up from the basement. She called the fire dpt. Soon our basement was being swarmed by official folks. No doors were left closed.
Turns out the city had just filled the sewer lines with theatrical smoke in order to find any leaks. A rarely used basement toilet had dried up and allowed the smoke to enter our house. The wife suffers from a lung ailment and she had trouble breathing for a couple of months. We weren't the only ones affected by this city exercise. Pretty bone headed move on the part of the city, imo. But we're not litigious types, so no problem there.
Just really glad I'd cleaned up before leaving for seven months.
