heres my latest mad ape invention. Summer is here and I got several projects on different reservoirs and need to battle the heat..(hehe in more ways than one)..
either i buy several more of these at $400 a pop or get creative.
if it werent for this chiller this res would be at 80f. a sure death sentence in hydroponics.
take a look at the inside of this chest freezer. that hose has water being pumped on a close loop through the freezer and back into the res..very efficient and I dont know how many reservoirs I could cool with this badboy but i'm sure it will handle all of my needs..
so the water is pumped from the res through the hoses inside the freezer and circulated back into the res. i put this adapter to add some 3/4'' hose which holds a lot more volume of water that will be inside the freezer. put some hose clamps on that cause if it comes undone it might ruin your day.
OK so now we got a very effective way to cool the water now lets talk about temps. If you want to drop your temps fast or are doing a large reservoir put the pump on a cycle timer 5min on/ 15min off. this will allow water to sit inside the hose in the freezer and chill up then get circulated back into the res. when you hit your desired temp undo the cycle timer and let your water flow.
This is very effective and temps are conrolled by the length and diameter of the hose. so heres my caveman formula for raising water temps if they get too cold...simply pull out some of the 3/4'' hose and set it on top of the freezer. do this untill you find a happy medium 60-70f.
hehe I dont know how many reservoirs I can chill with this but it looks like a lot of hose will fit in there and still leave me room to chill my heini's..hehe now I can relax and chill my ro water storage and aero cloners and any reservoir. and they can all be done on different hoses to keep em from inter mixing.
again all the temps will be determined by length and diameter of hose. It takes a little dialing in and its easy to get too cold(below 60f)..if this happens just pull some hose out of the freezer and set it on top to lessen the amount of water thats in the hose in the freezer.
and thats my universal multi res chiller combination beer cooler...
