The case for trashing seedplants

It occurs to me as I manicure a c-99 seedplant thats been hanging about a week that on Jan. 6th,two clones from the seedplant will be in flower for 60 days and nearly ready, that seedplant was a montrous bitch taking up a ton of horizontal space,as are the majority of my seedplants.I remember having a conversation with mr. soul years ago one of the brothers grimm when I was trying their c-99,it had just come out and they were suggesting only flowering the clones not the seedplants,I was a newqbie at the time and this made zero sense to me.After all,the seedplants would be good for several ounces normally, why not grow them out?I'll tell you why not,its because the amount of space they take up and the time it takes to flower them you are actually losing out in yield, not to mention the headaches of tending to 5 or 6 ft seedplants.I believe instead of flowering out the seedplants, its best to take cuts from them after several weeks of veg and flower the cuts.I have no doubt this would be best with fem seeds and I think it would be good with reg seeds too.If you saw my flower room 1/3rd of it is 12 blockhead about 2 ft tall then the other 2 lights are being taken up by monsters, tilted vertizontal hoods to get light on the tallest ones, its just not worth it.I know now what the hell mr. soul was talking about!

I know what you're saying, Skeletor. I grew out some seeds trying to find a good mother, of course my friend decided to just put all the seedlings into the flower room to find which were male. And I got a seeded harvest and all the babies had to go through the stress of reveging. Thanks.

Anyway, then I grew them up some more, took clones and put the seedplants into flower. What a mistake! Its like night and day, a seed plant can seem shitty but the clones are great, or visa-versa. In the future I'll definatly flower clones to find a mom, and then pawn the seedlings off on an outdoor grower or some poor noob. :pointlaug (just kidding..)

Thanks for bringing it up, skele!

I'm glad you understand and see the point,I wish I would have posted this in the correct forum damn it,cant someone move it?It would be hard for a newbie to understand what I'm saying,I know I had a hard time getting my mind wrapped around trashing seedplants when mr. soul was explaining it to me,but now it just seems so obvious.I bet if you lose any time at all its only a couple weeks max,the better harvest will make up for it for sure.I always flower out my clones before making any final decision of which phenotype to keep anyway, the seedplant can give you some clues but its the flowered clone I'm interested in.That is the final product, the flowered seedplant is not so why make any decisions from it?There can be a myriad of differences between flowered clone and flowered seedplant, anything from physical structure to finishing time can be different, exact copy my ass the only thing usually exact about it is the erb itself.

This is good advice, especially for 'closet' or tent growers like me... I've come to this conclusion myself. So anytime I have a new strain, i'll just grow out the seed plants large enough to take clones. This has worked out SO much better for me in yields and hassle.

After so many years of growing yo'd think I'd take my own advice lol,if ever I grow seedplants again there's no doubt how I'll go about it.

Skeletor......You`ve brought up the very reason why ALL seedplants need done with once raped for their clones.......The clones are the one`s you`ll always find the proper phenotypes from as far as internode spacing and branching patterns.......When I grew outdoors yrs. ago and read the article on cuttings in High Times,......Whew.....How long ago was that...lol....From that day on it was a better yield from taking cuttings and raising em up for late spring planting with shorter plants and better yields as well as finishing faster........PEACE............DHF........... :sasmokin:

I guess this will never get moved to the proper forum no matter how much I ask lol.People running the show here think its of little or no importance
