hey guys, what do you think the best route to go with when watering your plants. distilled, spring, tap, ect. i would think pure distilled water would be best since it is pure water and nothing else but what do you guys think?

Most of the time I just use the distilled water they sell at Wal-mart. Usually the ph is about 6.0 right out of the jug. They cost about .60 per gallon. Here lately I have been getting R/O water from a water station nearby @ .25 per gallon and am satisfied with that as the ph is about the same. I have been getting good results with both.
Some people use tap water that has been left open to the air ( you know, chlorine). But my tap water is nasty as hell. I wouldn't drink it let alone feed it to my plants.

get some tap water and an air pump for fish tanks.

let it sit and airate with the pump of 48 hours.

You can adjust the PH before or after, but I think after it sits for a bit it might change so I do it after.

Or you don't even have to adjust it... after it sits for that long it will go to a nutral PH of 7, which is not too high for soil.

this mthos has worked best for me, oxygenated ph adjusted distilled water, from your tap :) + it saves money.

the problem i would think with distilled is its distilled so there are no natural minerals in it which could be good and bad i guess. I use filtered tap water which i bubblefor 24 hours anyway. I still use distilled for rockwool cubes and for watering seedlings and young cuttings.

Pure rocky mountain spring water - from all that dam snow. Lotsa minerals - usually pretty good at the river but I go metropolitan tap -

Water changes from region to region and month to month. You will get accointed with your local requirements.

Some people have really bad tap water, you can learn a lot from your local agricurtural co-op or county office. -- Tap water can be a great sourse for metals and elements

I use tap water as well right out of the facet upstairs. Do you think it would be better to use tap water that isnt going through the water softerner? You know with all the salts and all that. I have a facet downstairs that I know doesnt go through the water softener maybe ill try using that and see what happens for awhile.

i use river water, plants love it more than anything else.

hell yea, river water could be awesome if its from an unpoluted source, and its free!

distilled water is too expensive IMO. RO is the best filtration for bad tap water supply. Although I have been to places where tap water is pristine (not so lucky back home) In Bled, Slovenia, the tap water is the most pure, pristine water you can find anywere. You could literally run a business bottling this stuff and selling it in other countries.

Back home I found a brewary which has a charity fountain. At 1 buck per 15 litres its the best purest water around 0 ppm on my meter. Its hundreds of years old rain water filtered slowly through an aquifer. I also use this water to brew with and to drink at home.

BTW, ph of pure water should be exactly 7.

Rob Banks,I know that your straight tapwater would be more beneficial to your plants than water softening systems,I've seen on other grows what can happen and its not pretty.I use mainly tapwater set out in 1 gallon milkjugs for 24 hours or more, and my water isnt clean its hard.My dogs water bowl shows it.My plants dont though, its a bit of a mystery I guess it contains calcium and other beneficial stuff in it.If I told you the PPM's you'd think I was bullshitting,I'm not though.About 25% of the water I use is out of my dehumidifier, its absolutely clean usually 2-5 PPM.I have to be careful though, besides it being so clean the PH is hard to get right,it contains basically nothing so I have to use cal-mag with it.My tapwater grows beautiful plants man,I was going to get an RO unit but in soil grows I just dont think its necessary.

river water

river water

Just wanted to add my opinion on river water. I worked on a golf course for many years and they would always use city water for irrigation rather then water from their pond or river because of the seeds from weeds etc carried in that water. I would think using it could cause the same problems.

I wouldnt use it for 1 reason.pests,You never know what kind of eggs you may be bringing into your growroom.I wouldnt use any water from a natural body.Be aware I never have and thats just my opinion,I hate pests!!

if money was not an issue wouldnt distilled water be the absolute best because you know that it is 100% pure water? i know that some of you out ther will say the disolved minerals in tap or spring water would be beneficial to the plant but you never know how much of what you are getting so if you have a great nutrition plan for your plants with a rich soil the containes all the things it needs and a supplement program which gives it the extra boost wouldnt distilled water be the perfect form of H20 to complete the picture?

AgainI'd be afraid as hell to do that,I know I'd be bringing in something unwanted with that rainwater some funkin critter eggs would be in there

If your afraid of a few eggs, you can use a simple sediment filter to remove those types of impurities from your rain water or river water. rain water is awesome too, almost forgot about that one.
