The Best Northern Lights?

Who sells the best Northern Lights out there regardless of price?

I want to get me some of those beans again. I had em before and loved em. I want the highest yielder out there with the super punch that plant can sometimes have.

I went with FemaleSeeds version for two reasons - one because they had a feminised version which suits my personal growing needs better, and two because they have 4-seed-packs which allowed me to try it without spending much money on it. Being my first NL I cant compare it to any other NLs but it's a pretty nice smoke with a nice and heavy stone as you'd expect.

I emailed FemaleSeeds for some more info regarding the history of their particular version and Francine was kind enough to email me this interesting tidbit:
Our Northern Light is based on the Old School Northern Lights - US genetics.
The Northern Light #2, #5 etc are derived from Dutch genetics.
Ours have been improved and modified over the past 15 years since the Old School version, which we acquired through import from the US all those years ago.
I hope you'll enjoy them as much as we do!
I've still got 1 of the 4 seeds left, i might save that one for when I get a pack of some other NL (Sensi maybe) so I can see how they compare.

But at the end of the day I think you can choose just about any NL from any of the main reputable breeders and youll end up with a nice smoke

If you want the Dutch genetics i'd go with Northern Lights #5. That was created by Australian breeders Neville or Shantibaba, the latter who now works with Howard "Mr Nice" Marks (mrnice.nl), so it'd make sense to get the Mr Nice version.

northern lights #1 is number one for a reason; it can be deadly...

Reef's NL has NL1 in it

It wasn't called #1 because it's "number one" lol :)

Here's some old info, some of it outdated (ie. who sells what and what is currently available) but plant descriptions still relevant ...

I got familiar with the Northern lights family (originally said to be from the Pacific Northwest) back in the 1980's when Nevil's Seed Bank offered the whole lineup. The original Northern Lights family is genetically diverse.

Northern Lights #1 was a single stalked, compact plant with a moderate Afghani smell. No one offers this classic version at this time. A strong plant and buzz.

Northern Lights #2 was a sturdy, pine tree shaped with a musty and piney odor. Dutch Passion (Oasis) and THSeeds (Closet Queen) currently offer versions.

Northern Lights #2 X #5 from The Seed Bank was very bushy and resinous with a strong juniper berry smell. A truly remarkable hybrid not offered by anyone.

Northern Lights #5 is available from BCSC for $75, a variety Nevil of The Seed Bank said was only available pure as a cutting. It is likely hybridized at one point.

Northern Lights #9 X #5 "disappeared" when Nevil sold his genetics to Sensi Seeds. This is the only original Northern Lights 9 genetics source to my knowledge.

These are the original Northern Lights breeding lines from which today's versions arose. Sensi Seed Bank sells Northern Lights with no number attached. Having access to Nevil's original genetics, my guess is that they crossed an Northern Lights #1 male to their Northern Lights #5 mother and stabilized the results. Northern Lights Special is a hybrid from KC Brains in Holland of Sensi's Northern Lights crossed to a Haze female. Northern Lights #9 was only sold in seed form as a hybrid to the Northern Lights 5 mother plant by Nevil at The Seed Bank during the late 1980's. Sagarmatha receives a lot of their strains delivered to them as a finished product from outside breeders. It is possible that someone produced these seeds. The known fact of a Northern Lights #9 male existing meant purebred seed should have been possible to produce, unless it was a male only strain. Trichome Technologies has a strain named Northern Lights #6, another related family member.

simpleton-sensi rocks it-no pics but been there.

dr atomic was awesome-heres a pic

those are the only straight up nl ive grown. i believe that atomic started with nl#5 from sensi, and backcrossed to an original nl from pnw he had access too. tough to be sure, hard to find info on his.

BCSC has a nl#5 that i believe also came from sensi stock originally, i have grown thier nl#5 x blueberry and it is to this day one of my alltime favorited to grow, so i imagine thier nl#5 will hold up. good luck....subrob
