The best jar selection of any retail chain

I

I searched high and low for a retail chain that sold Ball jars in the middle of winter. Apparantly these are a seasonal item almost every store. I stumbled upon and Aubuchon Hardware store and hit the jack pot. Jars of every size, and dirt cheap under 11$ 6 1/2 gallon jars.

I doubt these can be that hard to find. My local grocer has them , and good luck finding just about anything in this city... Lol. Or maybe they are left over from when they were in season lol.

I tried 2 grocery stores, a few dollar stores and a walmart all of them told me theyre a seasonal product. I never thought finding jars would have been so hard. Craft stores sell them but individually not by the case.

I hear ya, IL. Ran into the same problem back in January looking for jars. Ended up grabbing every last one I could carry when finally I found a bunch at a thrift shop. Got ball jars, latch tops, and some big, newer latch tops with a sealed lid. Kinda like a mason & latch jar in one.

eBay was one option if I really wanted to but I was holding out to find some in a store and constantly kept getting told & asked... it's a seasonal item, what are you jarring? Kinda surprised people were so interested. But come jarring season I will be stocking up, lesson learned. :)

For half gallon jars - If you don't live near an Aubuchon Hardware store but do have an Ace Hardware that is also an option. If the local Ace does not carry them you can order online and have the jars shipped free to your local Ace store for pickup. One time I did find the item back ordered for several weeks. Half gallon jars from Ace Hardware.

Update: Make sure the item is not in stock locally and that the shipping is free where you live. I just thought about it and the shipping offer may not be the same in all areas. On some web sites you are sometimes directed to a different web page based on your location. Double check it.

It must look really weird when a you guy comes in looking for cases of ball jars in the middle of winter. I got the "oh, what are you jarring?" question a few times. I just say pickles, figured its a little more believable given the scenario.

Walmart had a few different types of jars but they are very expensive ($5-$14 per jar) compared to ball jars and they are sold individually.

yeah it looks like ordering them from ace and having them picked up locally is the cheapest way, nice price compared to any other place

how much do those 1/2 gallon jars fit??

Ace always has everything, I love that place :cathug:

If the ask me what I am jarring up, I tell them a whole bunch of nunya's.
Nunya's?
Nunya damn business.

Walmart had these nifty little decorative glass jars with the press seal top for a buck each.
Great stash jars.

Cost Plus World Market, it may not be near everyone, but they have
Bormioli Rocco hermetic jars. They have more than what's on their
website, too. Every store has at least the 1/2,1,1 1/2, 2 and 4 liter
jars they range from $3.99-6.99. They have a nice wide mouth,
even on the 1/2 liter jars. The 4 liter jars fit about 8 oz of dense
bud while you can stuff a qp in the 1 1/2 liter jars. Pricier than Ball
or Mason jars for sure, but hey, nothing's too good for our ladies. Right?:canabis:

Hmm. I did-not-know-that. And here I was standing in front of an aisle full of jars at Walmart not long ago, oblivious to the fact that they would soon be gone for a long time.

Speaking of jars though, this is awesome. 2.5 gallons, 20 bucks. :)

I read once on another site about using pickle jars. Just run them through the dishwasher a few times after eating the pickles. I like the Vlassic pickle jars. Those jars are okay for up to a year I know and for real long term I've read about vacuum packing then freezing the buds. Sounds good. I also like the recycle/reuse green idea of it too. But Ball jars may be better. I don't really know, or care that much really. Whatever works for ya. The Vlassic jars work fine for me. I especially like those huge 1/2 gal suckers.

Ace Hardware.

Ball canning supplies. all sizes.
Yep!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1/2 gallon jars are less than $10.00 for 6 canisters from Ace Hardware.

And even IF your local store doesn't carry them you can order online and have them dropped-shipped to your local store - no extra cost.

Good deal, IMHO

YMMV
