Testing: Dutch Passion super autoflowers

Hi All!

I wanted to bring you guys up to date, concerning the new autoflower strains by Dutch Passion.

This year, we'll be able to test 4 of them:

- Think Different
- Auto Extreme
- Auto Blueberry
- Auto Mazar

We wanted to see just how easy they would grow and if they finish on time. (time advertised by Dutch Passion)

We had a nice constructive and friendly talk with the founder of Dutch Passion, Henk, who came all the way over here to chat, chill, relax and enjoy talking strains.

As I tested the Think Different last year in a 'hands-off'-grow outdoors, I wanted to see what these babies could do in a greenhouse.
Naturally, we wanted to test them on a full organic regime. That means: use good amended soil + water.
By just giving them water, the full flavor and scent developes better imo.

I'll try to give as good as a description of the strains I can, followed by a shot smoke report.

A big thanks to all at Dutch Passion for the trust and support!

STRAIN: THINK DIFFERENT by Dutch Passion

Description:

Think Different is the real surprise package in the Dutch Passion AutoFem collection. She has quickly established a great reputation for stunning yields and very strong weed. Even first time growers have achieved over 100g/plant and experienced growers can achieve 200g-300g+. She can grow over 1m tall in experienced hands and is a good alternative to traditional varieties, offering bumper harvests of strong cannabis just 10-11 weeks after seed germination. The genetics come from a special AK47 hybrid known as AK420.

Indoors she has the potential to yield up to 500g/m² especially in ‘scrog’ systems with powerful lights. She joined our list of best sellers just one year after she was released and has created a following of AutoFem growers who refuse to grow anything else. Serious growers like you should try growing this at least once!

The intention was to plant them in full soil and just let them go about their way. We did that. However, due to unforseen circumstances, we had to transplant them to 6l pots when they were 4 days old.

We had to move them outside for the next 3 weeks. The outside temperatures weren't higher than 14 degrees Celcius. Thus, the plants were slowed down conciderably. We started with 50 plants, and made a selection to keep 10 to flower with.

picture.php

The 10 were transplanted into full soil after a total of almost 4 weeks. Those 4 weeks they continued to be in veg. They were almost rootbound in those small pots.

picture.php

They continued in veg over the next 2,5 weeks, adjusting to their new conditions.
Then they started flowering, which was completed after 5-6 weeks.

picture.php

picture.php

After 4 weeks of flowering, buds are 'harvestable'. Not yet fully ready or swollen, but a commercial grower could take them down at this point. Not us however, we are not for profit.

Now, they are at 5,5 weeks of flowering (12 weeks total!)

picture.php

On many buds, second internode flowering was well on its way

picture.php

Most of the Think Differents had real round cola's, big and fat!

picture.php

However, there were those who looked more sativa (but dense calyxes)

Good, nice, compact and huge buds!

See what I'm talking about: a bud as wide as a 2L soda bottle

SMOKE REPORT:

Looks:

- Looks very white with orange hues.
- Crystals are abundant and not too small
- Very high calyx-leaf ratio
- Almost zero 'fluffy' popcorn buds
- More dense and compact than you'd expect on a first glance

Smell:

- Frist there is the smell of orange melons, a tadd bit skunky, and hazelnuts.
- When cured, there is a scent of blood oranges, a hint of citrus, chocolate, hazelnuts and pine.
- Very pleasant smell, but tingles and lingers in your nose. A smell that skunk-lovers might not be used to. Very round and easely recognizable.

Taste:

- Taste of blood oranges, spices and hazelnuts when you blow out the soft soft smoke.

Effect:

- The effect is really nice. No rush, just a very good quality high. More old skool than 'new skool' . Cotton mouth, red eyes, laughter, and a buzzing head. When left a bit longer, a more stoney feeling creeps up on your eyes.

Growing:

Great germination rates! We germed 55 and all 55 sprouted!

If you want an easy to grow strain with a big yield, this should be your pick. Plants on average were all >100g. Even with the delay because of the colder temps in the beginning, and the 2x transplanting, this strain did what it is supposed to do: DELIVER! (even though the cycle was 3 weeks longer than it was supposed to)

At an ending note on this strain, I'd have to say: Think Different WILL get mold when allowed to finish flowering in humid conditions. With your climate in check, you get zero mold! (we hadn't got any mold, not even in the most compact buds)
No hermafrodites are to be found in this strain.

Overall:

Very good autoflower. This strain really rivals indoor buds when grown in the greenhouse or outdoors. It's a nice herb to use at social gatherings, friends, at the movies, when chilling, or even for concentration when working.

Works analgesic too! Had it tested by an arthritis patient. His pain was gone within 3 minutes.

Thank you Dutch Passion for putting this strain out there!

And you get one plant per member?! (Jaw hits floor) I keep dreaming that will be allowed on a federal level here someday. One more question if you don't mind. Did all members pool money, or is there a membership fee? Or is it sold bartered to cover expenses? Just wondering because a greenhouse this nice must have been expensive to obtain and outfit.

Every member pays a yearly member-fee of €25-
Then, when there is a harvest, costs will be calculated and every member pays the cost per gram, just like you would in a coffeeshop.

Except: the price for the club members consists of 2 parts: production cost (money for the grower) and club-running costs (paid staff, overhead costs, rent of office, administration costs,...) .

So every year (or half year), costs will be recalculated in terms of the present situation (depending on the number of growers the club has, the estimated future and previous yields, running costs for the club - workload, staff, side money for possible legal issues, accountant etc.)

All the members sign a declaration so that the club can plant a plant for them. Ultimately, the harvest of seperate strains is taken together and the members can have a choice on what strain they would like after the harvest. They can come and pick it up in portions of 20-40 or 60g per month/2 months.
Some people give us seeds aswell because they prefer a certain strain, or want to contribute to the diversity of strains in the club.
Also we had members giving us CBD enriched strains to help other people.

As far as the greenhouse is concerned:

Growers who grow for the club own their own property. The greenhouse was bought by one grower from the club. The greenhouse is the first legal company to render an exclusive service (the service of growing the plant - like any other grower would) to the Cannabis Social Clubs.

REMEMBER: THE GROWER (OR SMALL BIZ) MUST BE A MEMBER OF THE CLUB AND WORK ACCORDING TO A CONTRACT.

This way we want to ensure the highest possible quality (amatures who grow for the club without experience, brings not only the club in financial problems, it stalls production aswell.
Also, there still is a problem with the 'anonimity' of the people who grow for the club. They still can't pay taxes over the planting-service, because they would lose they anonimity. So this is still a problem.

We don't want to be big or make a profit, just deliver premium quality Cannabis to the CSC. Grown organic and not indoors. No added nutrients, and Cannabis tested in a lab. We want to set a high standard for CSC Cannabis in our country.

So together with that grower who bought the greenhouse, we now are implementing the first company to pay full taxes on growing Cannabis.

So not only is the greenhouse great and awesome for me to work in ; If this works well, it is a huge step forward in Belgium. This will mean that all the growers attached to a club can come out of the closet and should not be afraid anymore.

Let's hope we can pull it off.
We've got the support from Dutch Passion and the biggest and oldest CSC of the country.

STRAIN: AUTO EXTREME by Dutch Passion

Description: AutoXtreme is the exceptional result of a 2 year collaboration between Dutch Passion and DinaFem using some special Haze genetics from Dutch Passion. The project took a lot a careful growing and selection before we were prepared to approve it. The genetics are based on our OutLaw® (Amnesia x Super Haze) photoperiod variety and have been adapted into an AutoFem which delivers a powerful sativa Haze influence alongside very generous yields. This variety is exclusively available from Dutch Passion.

AutoXtreme is harvested around 85 days after germination. This is a little longer than other AutoFems, but with this variety the extra time was needed to give the best combination of potency, taste and crop size. As a result the plants may be a little larger than usual, up to 1.5m tall. This is a new AutoFem and one which will be very hard to beat.

Well... let's just see how they went.

We planted 10 of them directly into the full soil trenches. No soaking in water, just direct in the soil. Out of the 10 we sowed, 8 saw the light of day and sprouted. After 5 days we eliminated one auto Extreme because of a genetic defect which resulted in a mutation and leaf deformation.

We wanted to train (LST) them, however, we didn't go though with it, because of all the other things we have going on, and to proper LST the plants, takes time.

The first few weeks (4 untill they reached the flowering phase) there wasn't enough wind to make the stems and branches grow thick and strong. So if we'd add a bit more wind, yield could be augmented by surely 50g dry per plant.

Nevertheless, they grew pretty good. In general, they were about 40-50 cm higher than the Think Different. They were done 84 days after sowing! More details about the grow characteristics in a later post..

Lets look at the first pictures from the first 5 weeks.

Bud formation looked really good from the beginning. Right from then on you can see she's becomming really sativa.

Leave that for 5 to 6 more weeks and you get this:

We could see 3 distinct phenotypes:

- A 'haze' phenotype with a very high calyx-leaf-ratio.

- A 'ruderalis' phenotype with very dense and leafy buds

- A 'auto extreme' phenotype with very nice buds, good bag appeal and very nice yields and cola structure

Let's see if you guys can differentiate next couple of pictures.
