termites

I've had a tough year so far a terrible drought, with no rain at all for 41 days, and one tenth inch in 63 days.. Now termites have eaten away the large part of the tap roots, they appear to be darker than most termites almost ant like but are not ants.. I had dusted the foliage with sevin, for grasshoppers and leaf hoppers, I know but I'm still 3 months from harvest so I'm not worried about residue just keeping my plants alive.... another friend has had this problem also and confirms his plants were also killed by termites. We both agree that when watering your plants for an extended period they are just like an oasis in the desert, every thing wants to eat whatever still is moist...anyone got suggestions

Maybe try watering an area a little ways away. If conditions are better elsewhere, maybe the critters will leave your ladies alone....or maybe not.

I've had problems with termites, weird. Sounds like carpenter ants, which are just as bad. I used nematodes to get rid of the little bastards, they attach to one termite and the termite takes the parisite back to the hive and kills them all. Ask your local growshop, a lot of shops have them. Fully organic, and they act now. It's also good if you have termites at home. Good luck!

I've got nematodes on duty in my garden... have yet to see a termite where in previous years there were issues.

Finally back, got alot of good info this week, I spoke to a botanist, quiet knowledgable on grafting and rooting woody plants... he says that the raw end of any cutting never really heals. New roots emerge from the bark and the plant layer just under the bark, the woody stem never heals completely.. and that insects and molds and rot can invade the plant and eventually kill it..Scorpio, you have the cure, right on the money, man...Sevin in most any form.. fortunatly I was able to reach this guy at a nearby university by public phone...arent those phone cards just fine.... It looks like I will lose 6 large plants at one site.. this site was loaded with leaves, rotting wood and debris, I thought it would be great I used alot of that stuff for mulch... so when times are dry and theres lots of organic rotting wood that dries out the termites migrate to where there is moisture....... mine and your plants..thanks all
